1 person dead and 2 wounded in Midtown Atlanta shootings; female suspect in custody

Two different people are dead and another has been wounded in a set of shootings in Atlanta, and a lady suspect is in custody, police say.

Officers responded about 1: 45 p.m. to a call of an individual shot at 1280 W. Peachtree St. in Midtown, Atlanta police said in a statement. There, they located two shooting victims, among whom died and something who was simply hospitalized.

While at the shooting scene, officers received another call of an individual shot at 1100 Peachtree St.There, they found a wounded one who was also hospitalized and later died, police said.

The final shot has been fired around 2: 15 p.m., police said.

“Initial information indicates an unknown female is in charge of these incidents. Multiple officers taken care of immediately the Midtown area and began looking for the feminine suspect,” police said.

On Monday afternoon at around 4: 16 p.m., police announced the unidentified female suspect was located at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta AIRPORT TERMINAL and taken into custody without incident.

Police credited their public safety partners and a thorough camera network for the apprehension.

Police released two still photos of the suspect. The images show a female wearing a striped shirt and carrying a purse in her left hand. The girl also dragged what were a rolling suitcase with her right hand.

Police said at a Monday evening press conference they usually do not believe the shootings are random and the victims were targeted.

Police initially told residents to remain off the streets between 12th Street Peachtree Street NE and 15th Street and W. Peachtree Street NW while they sought out a suspect.

The shootings occurred near Colony Square, a favorite shopping district.
