49ers Rumors: Elijah Mitchell Coping with Hamstring Injury, Likely Ready for Week 1

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell is coping with a hamstring injury which will likely prevent him from taking the field through the preseason, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

However, Mitchell is likely to be equipped for the beginning of the standard season once the Niners undertake the Chicago Bears on Sept. 11 at Soldier Field.

Mitchell is coming off an extraordinary rookie season where he rushed for 963 yards and five touchdowns in 11 games. He also caught 19 passes for 137 yards and something score.

However, the 2021 sixth-round pick was in and out from the lineup while nursing a variety of knee, shoulder, head and rib injuries, and a fractured finger. He didn’t take part in drills during OTAs to be able to heal.

Mitchell returned to drills about fourteen days ago, and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that the team would ease him back to things.

“He’s got looked good,” Shanahan said. “He previously a hardcore offseason just heading back from injuries. He didn’t reach do much in OTAs. It had been great to obtain him on the market these first three days. He could be easing his in the past involved with it. Just glad he’s getting back again to health.”

If Mitchell struggles to play come Week 1, SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA has a amount of talented running backs to show to in Jeff Wilson, Trey Sermon, Tyrion Davis-Price and JaMycal Hasty.

Like Mitchell, Sermon was a rookie in 2021. The 49ers selected him in the 3rd round out of Ohio State. However, he appeared in only nine games due to injury, rushing for only 167 yards and something touchdown.

Wilson, meanwhile, has been around SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA since 2018. He appeared in nine contests last season, rushing for 294 yards and two touchdowns.

Davis-Price was selected by the 49ers in the 3rd round of the 2022 draft out of LSU. He rushed for 1,003 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games with the Tigers during his 2021 junior season.

While losing Mitchell for just about any period of time wouldn’t be ideal, the Niners do have various options at the positioning.
