Szafnauer says that the Frenchman’s only weakness is he can take too much time to get the limits in the beginning of the race weekend.
Aston Martin announced the other day that it had signed Alonso for 2023, and it’s really not yet clear who’ll replace him at the Enstone outfit.
The team had hoped to slot reserve driver Oscar Piastri in to the seat, and announced him last Wednesday. However, the Australian is understood to possess signed a contract with McLaren and quickly took to social media marketing to deny he will be racing for Alpine next year.
While Alpine continues to be pursuing its claim on Piastri, with the problem expected to visit the Contract Recognition Board, the team management is currently considering other drivers.
The list includes former Renault driver Nico Hulkenberg, but lots of the candidates have less experience thanOcon, potentially leaving him as de facto team leader next year.

Szafnauer says thatOconproved his worth alongside Sergio Perez at Force India/Racing Point in 2017 and 2018.
“Esteban is really a super talent,” he noted. “I caused him at Force India and the ones were the times of Sergio Perez as his teammate.
“And he was as quick as Sergio and raced Sergio hard, and when you reacall those days, these were always together on the grid. And sometimes they even came together in the races! And we see what Sergio is with the capacity of.
“With Fernando too, although Fernando’s got the skill and the talent to obtain a lap from the car rapidly. He needs 3 or 4 laps and he’s at 99%, or 99.9%, and that extra 0.1% has a few laps more, once you learn why, whereas Esteban requires a little bit additional time to find the maximum from the car.
“But ultimately, on Saturday, and Sunday, he’s there. So he must learn a bit to obtain there a little faster. But we’re dealing with him on that.
“And thereafter, can he lead the team? For certain he’s improving and better. He’s got a race win under his belt. He’s scored good points for all of us this season. And he’ll find out more by enough time we reach next year.”
