An 88-year-old woman was killed in a suspected alligator attack at a gated community near Hilton Head

Your body of an 88-year-old woman was found Monday near Hilton Head Island, SC, after what authorities referred to as a suspected alligator attack.

The girl, a resident of Sun City Hilton Head, has been gardening before she finished up in a pond at the gated community for adults 55 and older, Maj. Angela Viens, a Beaufort County sheriffs spokeswoman, said within an interview.

The girl couldn’t immediately be identified. It wasn’t clear how she finished up in the roughly 300-square-yard pond, Viens said.

Viens attained the scene about 11: 45 a.m., in regards to a half-hour after someone dialed 911 and reported a person was in the water having an alligator, she said.

Viens said she saw the pet, which she referred to as a big alligator, close to the edge of the pond with the girl body.

She told reporters at the scene: “The alligator was basically holding her hostage, I assume I have no idea what the correct term will be. It had been guarding her and didn’t want people near by.”

The girl body was recovered at 1 p.m., Viens said. Authorities from the SC Department of Natural Resources, which led the reaction to the incident, captured the alligator around 4 p.m., she said.

It wasn’t clear what happened to the pet. The department didnt immediately react to a obtain comment.
