Each day after announcing he was finally likely to leave government service at years end, chief Biden medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci appeared on Fox News and spent over 15 minutes pushing back on some right-wing talking points and attacks.

Fauci, who has run the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984 and served seven presidents, has been regularly vilified by Republicans and conservative media over his cautious method of the COVID-19 pandemic. Actually, GOP lawmakers greeted the news headlines of Fauci stepping down by promising to drag him before Congress for additional investigations.

Fox News star Tucker Carlson, who spent two-plus years demonizing Fauci as a buffoon and Mussolini-like dictator, welcomed the scientists pending retirement by accusing Fauci of very serious crimes while bizarrely envisioning the pandemonium at SoulCycle studios on the lack of their even tinier version of the Dalai Lama.

Needless to say, thats just the tip of the iceberg with regards to the quantity of hateful rhetoric thats been slung Faucis way by the networks hosts and commentatorsespecially after former President Donald Trump began viciously unloading on Fauci through the waning days of his presidency. In a single notorious example, then-Fox Nation host Lara Logan directly compared Fauci to Nazi physician Josef Mengele, sparking widespread condemnation and her disappearance from Fox airwaves.

Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto, however, has largely given the longtime public servant a good shake while bemoaning the attacks which have been leveled against Fauci by their own colleagues. During his Fox News interview with the outgoing NIAID chief on Tuesday, the veteran journalistwho has touted the COVID-19 vaccines as life-saving after their own bouts with the diseasegave Fauci ample possibility to answer his critics.

Asked if his retirement wasnt a method to avoid Republican investigations should they take over the home and/or the Senate, Fauci said never and he has nothing to cover. Pressed if hed have any reservations about testifying as an exclusive citizen, the general public health expert asserted hed most probably to doing this but noted that previous hearings have devolved into partisan bickering.

I really believe that oversight can be an important area of the government process. A few of the items that have gone on have already been outright character assassination. Thats not oversight, he declared. So if they would like to enter legitimate dignified oversight, Id become more than pleased to do this.

Fauci also took issue with a conservative opinion writer grousing that his massive $400,000+ yearly pension also needs to offend the sensibilities of Americans, wondering where in fact the author got that figure.

After all, can you please have him call me up and tell me where they got that number? Fauci asked Cavuto, adding that hed be very, very surprised if his annual pension was that high.

So in all honesty with you totally, I dont even understand what it really is, Fauci insisted. Some newspaper pulls it out of these ear and starts discussing it; I dont know very well what theyre discussing.

The presidents chief medical adviser continued to refute the idea that he turn off the nation through the start of the pandemic, noting he didnt recommend shutting everything down. Asked whether he regretted if shutdowns went too much, especially with schools, Fauci claimed he was among the individuals who said we need to do everything we are able to to find the children back school.

Fauci, however, really pushed when Cavuto raised the origins of COVID-19 and if the doctor was too dismissive of the idea that the herpes virus originated via research grants from the National Institute of Health, and finally leaked out of a lab in Wuhan.

That is revisionistic history, Fauci snapped back. Ive always had an open mind and said from the get-go, we ought to keep an open mind regarding the origin. As increasingly more data came in, including now recent papers from highly qualified virologists from a variety of countries show that it’s more likely that its an all natural occurrence.

He continued: The viruses they were coping with, anyone who knows a good tiny bit about virology will let you know that it might be molecularly impossible for all those viruses to possess converted into, either accidentally or deliberately, SARS-COVID-2. People appear to disregard that and continue on with a multitude of conspiracy theories.

Cavuto wrapped up the interview by noting that critics believe that Fauci has been very dismissive of these criticisms and didnt entertain their worries about their fears, wondering if the Presidential Medal of Freedom winner would care to respond.

Neil, many thanks for giving me the chance. You’re a good guy. If somebody says a thing that scientifically is incorrect and I disagree using them, Ive end up being the adversary, Fauci reacted.

If somebody says that hydroxychloroquine works and may be the miracle cure and I say its not, then Im the theif for some people. When actually it never did work, also it doesnt work now, he concluded.

Needless to say, this is an unsubtle shot at Trump and his allies, who in the early months of the pandemic obsessively pushed the anti-malaria drug as a cure-all though it was repeatedly found to be ineffective against COVID-19.
