AT THE VERY LEAST 15 Dead from Flooding in Eastern Kentucky

Governor Andy Beshear announced on Friday that at the very least 15 folks have died because the consequence of severe flooding in eastern Kentucky.

“The flooding situation in Eastern Kentucky is ongoing, with a flood watch in place through today. Heartbreakingly, we are able to confirm at the very least 15 deaths, but we expect that number to cultivate. Over 23,000 Kentuckians are without power,” he tweetedFriday morning.

“Our teams will work night and day to greatly help those impacted. I wish to thank the heroic first responders, including @KentuckyEM, @KentuckyGuard, @KyStatePolice, @KYTC, @KyFishWildlife among others. Yesterday teams engaged in around 50 air rescues and a huge selection of boat rescues,” he tweeted.

In accordance with NBC-affiliate WLWT5, Beshear told CNN News that the death toll is likely to rise to “a lot more than double” and can include “some children.”

As reported by Reuters, Beshear declared circumstances of emergency across six counties Thursday morning.

“We have been currently experiencing among the worst, most devastating flooding events in Kentucky’s history, the governor said in his emergency declaration. “Hundreds will eventually lose their homes.”

“That is a continuing natural disaster, with an increase of rain expected tonight which could worsen the problem,” he continued.

In accordance with Poweroutage.us, about 24,000 households were left without power in eastern Kentucky.

Up to now, hawaii has activated the national guard, and hawaii police use helicopters and boats to rescue individuals who have been left stranded. Meanwhile, trucks provides drinking water, since it is currently difficult to acquire fresh water in the hardest hit areas.

While evacuation centers and shelters were opened in state parks, Beshear cautioned that the storms left a few of these facilities without power.

“I’m asking everyone to pray,” he told CNN. “There are a great number of people on the market who need help and so are very scared at this time. And we’re doing the most effective we can to attain every single one of these.”

Beshear in addition has create an online fundraiser, Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund, which aims to aid those influenced by the flooding.
