Bagnaia: Quartararos Aragon MotoGP crash didnt change my strategy

Quartararo was eliminated on lap one when he ran in to the back of Marc Marquez following the Honda rider had a little slide exiting Turn 3.

Bagnaia continued to complete second, 0.042 seconds behind Gresinis Enea Bastianini following a thrilling duel, to lessen his championship deficit to Quartararo to just 10 points with five races remaining in 2022.

Knowing the huge opportunity Quartararos crash offered Bagnaia, the Ducati rider admits it didnt alter how he approached the race while adding he wasnt likely to fight too much against Bastianini if his future teammate was ahead past on the final lap.

Sincerely, it didnt change my strategy, Bagnaia said of Quartararos incident.

My strategy was to create my pace, lap by lap because in the beginning I was feeling that the grip had not been exactly like it had been in FP4.

“I was calm, I was just attempting to be very smooth with the gas and I just began to push a little more, a little more.

And I was realizing that only Enea in this example, because only Fabio and Enea had exactly the same pace through the race, therefore i had been knowing Enea was for certain with me through the race.

Nonetheless it didnt change a lot of things for me personally. When I exited from Turn 7 I looked to the silver screen and I see he crashed. So, I already knew.

Today was essential never to commit any mistakes, because Fabio was unlucky and he gave to us an enormous possibility to recover plenty of points.

It had been very important within the last lap to complete the race. When I see and believe that Enea was too near me, I simply tried to be relaxed, be calm, and I thought that when he overtakes me I’ll not take any risk – I’ll just finish the race in the simplest way possible.

EASILY saw some mistakes, some errors, I’d try [to overtake] back.

But he didnt within the last laps, so finally I’m happy with the effect. I gave my best today and I believe we did an impact when compared to others today.

Bagnaia said after his San Marino GP victory, when he closed the championship result in 30 points, he would only begin to take into account the title when he was at the very least 10 behind Quartararo.

Given that eventuality has arrived at pass, Bagnaia says he’ll now consider himself a challenger but will still do not dwell with this much.

For certain now its more clear that people are close, he said.

10 points may be the lowest distance I ever endured [to a championship leader] right away of a season.

So, for certain I will make an effort to take into account the championship, however, not so much. I’ll think nearly my work, I understand that in Japan you won’t be easy.

We shall have less time and energy to test our bike, to boost our bike, and we realize we need additional time to prepare yourself in comparison to other bikes.

But Im quite sure we are able to be very competitive and I’ll make an effort to work like we have been doing and finishes the races how exactly we know.
