The 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan, a midsize SUV, earns a high Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety because of improved headlight offerings.
To earn either of the Institutes two awards in 2022, vehicles must earn good ratings in six IIHS crashworthiness evaluations, like the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, original side, roof strength and head restraint tests. They need to also be accessible with a front crash prevention system that earns advanced or superior ratings in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.
For the lower-tier Top Safety Pick, a minumum of one good or acceptable headlight system should be available. For the higher-tier Top Safety Pick+, good or acceptable headlights should be standard across all trims.
The 2022 Tiguan includes two new headlight systems that both earn acceptable ratings. The prior years model missed from the higher-tier award because poor-rated halogen headlights were offered on some trims.
The Tiguans standard front crash prevention system earns an excellent rating in the vehicle-to-vehicle ensure that you a sophisticated rating in the vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluation.
