Biden warns Trump’s extreme MAGA Republicans are ‘clear and present danger’ to U.S. democracy

In a fiery primetime speech, President Joe Biden launched an all-out assault on former President Donald Trump and “MAGA Republicans,” saying they “pose an obvious and present danger” to American democracy.

“It’s inside our hands, yours and mine, to avoid the assault on American democracy,” Biden said Thursday from Independence Hall in Philadelphia, urging Americans to reject fear and violence. “I really believe America reaches an inflection point, among those moments that determine the form of everything that’s ahead after.”

Biden’s demand Americans to are a symbol of democracy over extremists may be the same message he ran and won on in the 2020 presidential election. The White House’s hope is that it’ll remain an absolute strategy 8 weeks right out of the midterm elections that may decide who controls the home of Representatives and Senate. The trip marks his second stop by at the critical swing state in three days.

“For a long period, we’ve reassured ourselves that American democracy is guaranteed. Nonetheless it isn’t,” Biden said. “We need to defend it. Protect it. Operate for it. Every single one of us. That is why tonight I’m asking our nation ahead together and unite behind the single reason for defending our democracy irrespective of your ideology.”

Democrats’ probability of keeping their majority in both chambers have brightened in recent weeks regardless of the mixed economic signals, as Republicans continue steadily to receive blowback from the Supreme Court’s abortion decision overturning Roe v. Wade and investigations into Trump persist. An NBC News poll released the other day found most American voters, 58%, disapprove of the Dobbs decision and nearly exactly the same amount, 57%, believe the investigations into Trump should continue.

“MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards,” Biden said. “Backwards to an America where there is absolutely no to choose, no to privacy, no to contraception, no to marry who you like.”

Since Trump entered office, Biden has said the united states faces “a battle for the soul of the country.” The importance of the threat to democracy is underscored by Biden’s selection of venue: Independence National Historic Park where in fact the Constitution was penned. Exactly the same NBC News poll discovered that “threats to democracy” has overtaken the price of living as the utmost pressing issue on voters’ minds.

Biden has amped up his criticism of Republicans recently, wanting to position Democrats instead of a celebration led by extremists. The other day he described Republicans as “semi-fascist” for staying loyal to the former president. His remarks come contrary to the backdrop of Trump’s legal woes following a FBI raid on his Florida home of Mar-A-Lago where in fact the former president is accused of mishandling classified information.
