BioShock is unplayable for Linux users with new update

We dont want to buy, 2K

Fifteen years later,BioShock remains probably the most recognizable and beloved series in gaming, and publisher 2K is still releasing updates to aid the series. Or, more specifically, to help make the games tell you their very own launcher, as evidenced by the patch notes from both older updates and a fresh one (via PC Gamer). These times they even labeled the patch as an excellent of Life Update, when all it did was enable linking to 2K accounts and added the brand new launcher with a store to get new content.

So theyre forcing just one more game launcher on us, but what really has fans peeved is that new update has rendered the games unplayable for players running them on Linux. Initially, it appeared to you need to be BioShock Infinite that has been affected, however now its looking just like the entire series is really a bust. The Linux Gaming subreddit is filled with players decrying the changes, and looking for solutions to repair the problem. Some players are expressing their wish that Steam would let them access earlier builds instead of forcing them to utilize the newest version, and Im sort of surprised that wasnt a choice already.

Naturally, fans took to the review section on Steam to voice their discontent, where one user said that 2Ks launcher is riddled with bugs, crashes, and corrupted saves.

I’ve my BioShock collection on my PlayStation so Im in the clear, but man, I’m feeling the frustration with respect to PC gamers. Heres hoping that 2K gets the message soon and decides to scrap the launcher altogether, or at least releases a patch to repair the games for Linux users.

Recently Ive been partial to arguments about why its vital that you own physical media, and I must say this example is pushing me further into that camp. EASILY spent money on a casino game, I certainly desire to be in a position to play it minus the meddling of an organization years following the games release.
