Boschung to try Formula 2 return at Spa

The Campos Racing driver has had to endure facet syndrome this year, causing him neck pain, which first forced him to withdraw from the Barcelona round in-may after practice.

He attemptedto drive in Monaco and took part in both practice and qualifying before withdrawing from the function.

Despite returning in Baku, finishing ninth in the feature race, he withdrew from the Silverstone round after qualifying before sitting out the Red Bull Ring, Paul Ricard and Hungaroring meetings.

The team announced before this weekend’s round at Spa he will go back to racing instead of former Formula 1 driver Roberto Merhi, who had bought out while Boschung was injured.

Boschung said: “It’s good to be back. It has been the toughest times of my career lately but I’m happy I could make an effort to race again in Spa.

“Needless to say, I’ll know once I drive the way the neck will react, therefore i will stay cautiously optimistic.

“Campos deserve great results once we have shown at the start of the growing season so I can do my best to experience this.”

Before his injury, Boschung took a podium at Imola, finishing third in the feature race.

Merhi took a sensational podium at the Red Bull Ring, crossing the line second before a track limits penalty demoted him to fifth. Post-race penalties for Richard Verschoor and Jehan Daruvala then promoted him back around third.

His teammate Olli Caldwell will undoubtedly be absent this weekend, thanks to a ban after receiving 12 penalty points this year, and you will be replaced by Lirim Zendeli.

Team Principal Adrian Campos said: “We’ve important news. We have been very happy to possess Ralph back when driving of his MoonMobile Dallara. Hopefully he is toned and will achieve great results.

“Following the latest penalty imposed by the FIA, unfortunately, we shall not have the ability to have Olli around this weekend.

“Lirim will need his place and I wish him an excellent weekend, we realize he has been from the competition this season but hopefully he can adapt quickly to the single-seater and that, by using the complete team, we are able to achieve a confident weekend when it comes to results.”
