Brooklyn Woman Accused Of Drowning Her Three Kids Was Facing Eviction, Custody Battle: Family Speaks FROM Her Mental MEDICAL ISSUES

A Brooklyn mom whos accused of drowning her three children was coping with an eviction and also custody battle and mental medical issues before their tragic death on Monday.

Erin Merdy, 30, of Coney Island, reportedly owed over $10,000 in back rent on her behalf Neptune Avenue apartment where she lived with her children 3-month-old Oliver, 4-year-old Liliana and 7-year-old Zachary and had been threatened with eviction since January following the COVID-19 eviction moratorium was lifted, based on the NY Post.

Merdy had stopped paying her $1,531-a-month rent in July of this past year, and have been served an eviction notice prior to the moratorium even expired, the Post reports citing court public records.

Merdys uncle, Levy Stephen, also revealed his niece was amid a custody dispute with Zacharys father before Mondays tragedy. Stephen said the boys father had problems with just how she was raising him after going from the grid.

Authorities say around 1 a.m. Monday, concerned relatives called police to report Merdy may be drunk and may did something to harm her children. A long time later, she was found by police appearing dazed walking barefoot on the Coney Island beach in a bathrobe.

Police sources told the Post that she had told relatives she drowned all three kids before cops arrived.

Her childrens bodies were pulled from the water on the shoreline just three blocks from their house, and were eventually pronounced dead at Coney Island Hospital.

CATEGORY OF Mother Speaks FROM Her Mental Illness, Saying They Knew She Was Struggling

Now, her family is speaking from the mental heath conditions that arrived with those other issues, having an aunt, Dine Stephen, saying she knew she was struggling and that the household includes a history of mental illness.

I knew she was struggling in the sense she was looking for her way through life. In this family we do have a brief history of mental illness to varying degrees. Some of us have battled with bipolar disorder, but I didnt know her mental struggles, the aunt said.

The aunt added that while she was looking for a way on her behalf children it had been the mental conditions that took over.

Another uncle, Eddy Stephen, told the Post he was speechless when he heard from relatives that Erin killed her three children.

Her uncle said Merry did just a little crazy stuff, but that it had been nothing that could result in harming her children or herself.

When asked about Merdys substance use habits, Eddy said she used to party occasionally, execute a little drinking, but he didnt see any substance abuse or note that she really was irresponsible.

Mother DIDN’T Bring Son To Recent Custody Exchange, Pulled Child From Youth Football Team AHEAD OF Deaths

A third uncle, Levy Stephen, shined a bit more light on the timeline behind Merdys mental health troubles.

He said both was previously in contact at all times, but that in 2015 or 2016, she disappeared off the facial skin of the planet earth. Levy said that now, (hes) faulting himself for not getting a way to speak to her, and wondered if he previously if the tragedy could have been avoided.

There is a period when Erin and I were connected continuously, however in 2015, 2016, she disappeared off the planet earth. I didnt learn how to speak to her, Merdys uncle, Levy Stephen, told the Post.

Police sources said that in July, Merdy had didn’t bring her son to a custody exchange before a six-week visit scheduled with the childs father.

And in-may, Merdy pulled the boy from his youth football team without the explanation, in accordance with his coach Allen McFarland, who said she were juggling a whole lot.
