Inflation had been causing some homeowners to delay big renovation projects as charges for building materials, fixtures and appliances jumped. Recently, higher mortgage rates have put a damper on the amount of homes for sale.
At the start of the entire year, carpenter Bill Albritton, who has owned Albritton Custom Carpentry near Charlotte, N.C., since 2004, was booked months beforehand and completing full custom kitchen cabinet replacements in homes in the historic districts of Charlotte. But hes seen a slowdown in the last 8 weeks.
In the Charlotte metropolitan area, the amount of home sold fell 19% between June and July, and so are down about 21% from July this past year, based on the Re/Max monthly National Housing Report.
