Camilla Reveals How Queen Laughed at 2005 Royal Wedding Mishap

Queen Camilla has revealed how Queen Elizabeth II “laughed” prior to the royal’s 2005 wedding to the then-Prince Charles following the bride suffered an uncomfortable shoe mishap.

In an individual tribute to the late monarch that has been broadcast before Britain’s national minute of silence on Sunday, Camilla praised Elizabeth to be a “sole woman,” “carving out a job” for herself in a male-dominated world upon her accession to the throne in 1952, and said she’d remember her “unforgettable” smile.

At one point, Camilla showed that the queen had an excellent love of life by telling an anecdote about her big day in 2005.

“I recall via here, Clarence House, to visit Windsor your day I acquired married, when I probably wasn’t firing on all cylindersquite nervous!” she said in the prerecorded tribute.

“For a few unknown reason, I placed on a set of shoes, and something had an inch heel and something had a two-inch heel. So, After all, discuss hop-along!

“There is nothing I possibly could do. I was halfway down in the automobile before I realized,” Camilla said. “And [the queen] could view it, and she laughed about any of it and just said, ‘I’m terribly sorry,’ and she did have an excellent love of life.”

Camilla and Charles’ road to the altar had not been smooth, and reports circulated that, following the death of Princess Diana in 1997, the queen declined invitations to events where in fact the prince and his partner would both maintain attendanceincluding her son’s 50th-birthday party.

Following a well-reported first meeting during a meeting held at Charles’ country home in 2000 between your queen and Camilla, the royal relationship developed, and Charles and Camilla became engaged in February 2005 with the monarch’s blessing.

Not surprisingly, the queen didn’t attend the legal wedding service, which, due to both Charles and Camilla being divorced, cannot happen in church. Instead, she attended a second blessing service, which she hosted at St George’s Chapel, Windsor in Berkshire, England.

On the following years, the queen and Camilla seemed to grow closer, with the then- Duchess of Cornwall being regularly photographed at events with her mother-in-law. The monarch bestowed royal seals of approval on her behalf son’s wife; including her royal family order, the order of the garter and latterly, her ultimate sign of approval, her “wish” that Camilla take the title of queen consort during Charles’ reign.

That Camilla will be queen 1 day had not been a formality when she married Charles. During the marriage, the palace said that the brand new royal will be known simply as princess consort once the time came, as public sentiment towards her had not been overwhelmingly positive following Diana years.

In February 2022, after nearly 17 years of Camilla’s loyal royal service, the queen decided that enough time had arrived at settle the discussion over titles forever.

In a note marking her 70th year on the throne, the queen said: “So when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I understand you’ll give him and his wife Camilla exactly the same support you have given me; in fact it is my sincere wish that, when that point comes, Camilla will undoubtedly be referred to as queen consort as she continues her very own loyal service.”

And, with the death of the queen at age 96 on September 8, the transition of Camilla from Duchess of Cornwall to Queen Camilla, has been relatively seamless.

Talking about her enduring memory of her late mother-in-law, Camilla said in her personal tribute on Sunday night that it had been her smile that she’d remember.

“She’s got those wonderful blue eyes, that whenever she smiles, they light her whole face,” she said.

“I’ll remember that smile, you understand, that smile is unforgettable.”

World leaders and monarchs from around the world came together in London for the queen’s state funeral on Monday, the largest gathering of its kind because the coronation in 1953.
