Chadwick Boseman Wins His First Emmy and Wife Accepts His Posthumous Award

Chadwick Boseman is currently an Emmy winner.

On day among the 2022 Creative Arts Emmys on Sept. 3, the late Black Pantherstar won the award forOutstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for portrayingStar Lord T’Challa in the episode “IMAGINE IF T’Challa Became A Star-Lord?” of the Disney+ Marvel animated seriesIMAGINE IF…? It marked his final role before his 2020 death.

Accepting the honor onbehalf of Chadwick, who rose to fame playing the type T’Challa in the 2018 MCU filmBlack Panther,was his wife, Taylor Simone Ledward.

“When I learned Chad was nominated, I started thinking about precisely what was going on on earth and the world and being so in awe of his commitment and dedication,” she said in a speech, in accordance with Deadline.”Just what a beautiful moment that certain of the final things he’d focus on was something so vital that you him also to the world but additionally something new.”

She continued, “You can’t understand your purpose if you don’t ask imagine if? Imagine if the universe is conspiring in my own favor? Imagine if it’s me? Chad will be so honored and I’m honored on his behalf.”

Chadwick died in August 2020 at age 43 following a four-year struggle with colon cancer and many months after he married his wife.

Following his death, he was nominated for his first Oscar for his leading role in thefilm Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom but lost to Anthony Hopkinsfor THE DADDY. Chadwick did, however, win his first Golden Globe forthe same part and his wife accepted the honor on his behalf in a video screened through the 2021 ceremony.

Other first-time Emmy winners at the 2022 Creative Arts Emmys Sept. 3 includedAdelefor the Adele One Night Only variety special, Paul McCartneyand Ringo Starrfor Peter Jackson‘s The Beatles: REUNITE docuseries, and Eminemfor the Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show. All of them are now aTony Award from being EGOT winners.

This year’s Creative Arts Emmys, whose second night occurs Sept. 4, precedes the Primetime Emmys, that may air go on NBC and Peacock on Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
