Chargers QB Justin Herbert’s Rib Injury Diagnosed as Fractured Cartilage

LA Chargers quarterback JustinHerbert has been identified as having a fracture to his rib cartilage.

Head coach Brandon Staley announced the injury on Friday, adding Herbert will undoubtedly be listed as daily.

Herbert was sacked twice and hit eight other times throughout a Week 2 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. While heplayed the complete game, he looked in distress duringthe game’s late stages and the team announced afterwards he wasdealing with a rib injury.

“You are not likely to see aquarterback at any degree of football play tougher and do more fortheir team and can their team to provide them the opportunity a lot more than him,” Staley told reporters following the 27-24 defeat.

The 2020 first-round pick played 32 ofa possible 33 games over his first two seasons with the Chargers,missing no contests due to injury. He didn’t start Week 1 of hisrookie campaign before overtaking the next week and he neverlooked back.

He’s completed 72 percent of his throwsfor 613 yards with six touchdowns and something interception across twogames up to now in 2022.

Chase Daniel, who’s made just fivestarts across 13 NFL seasons, is next on the Bolts’ QB depth chart if Herbert is bound or must miss time.Easton Stick may be the team’s other reserve option.

Herbert was a preseason MVP candidateafter an extraordinary progression over his first 2 yrs.

The Chargers do have several extra days to rest and regroup because of playing on Thursday in Week 2. Their next game reaches home contrary to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 25.
