MMA analyst Chael Sonnen believes the UFC will put Kamaru Usman on ice while Leon Edwards defends his welterweight title against Khamzat Chimaev.
Sonnens comments come after Khamzats historic UFC 279 weight miss that saw the Borz hit the scales seven . 5 pounds on the non-title fight welterweight limit.
Still, Sonnen believes Chimaevs next fight will undoubtedly be at 170 and that the UFC will book him against Edwards while Usman, who Rocky knocked out last month, waits to fight the winner for the championship.
I dont think that Kamaru Usman is likely to be fighting Leon next, former UFC middleweight and light heavyweight title challenger Sonnen told MiddleEasy in a recently available interview (h/t Sportskeeda). I really believe that Kamarus next fight will undoubtedly be for a belt. I believe theyre gonna keep Kamaru on ice. I believe Chimaev vs Leon is really a real possibility with the winner drawing into Kamaru… I believe that whenever you have those three and youre gonna matchem up, the order does matter. And I believe what I simply presented is really a more viable order.
The UFC is reportedly targeting a trilogy bout between Edwards and Usman that is more prone to just do it than Sonnens proposal because of Khamzat missing weight against Diaz and Usman deserving a rematch with Edwards in line with the fact he was winning before KO.
