Cindrics Bristol NASCAR Cup drama clears the mindset entering Round of 12

Cindric suffered a nerve-racking Bristol night race when his Team Penske Ford Mustang suffered two blown right-front tires, which dropped him multiple laps off the leaders.

However when the engine of playoff rival Kyle Buschs Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota blew up in the ultimate stage, that effectively salvaged his hopes of progression to the Round of 12. Having been below the cutline for some of the evening, Cindric found the excess spots he needed late to ensure he stayed in title contention.

Cindric, who’s in his rookie season as a full-time driver of the #2 car, believes the knowledge can make him stronger in coming races, as he strives to lift himself from underneath of the playoff pile.

I believe its more of a motivator to anyone who had any doubts like within the team like, Oh, man, were done, said Cindric. You ‘must’ have those thoughts for the reason that situation. Youve got a right-front down and you also go four laps down and you also get trapped.

Youre like, Oh, my gosh. Were done. We cant do that. To anyone who could have had those thoughts in the race, I could have those thoughts in the automobile aswell. I didnt. I had to operate a vehicle my heart out for another 350 laps or whatever it had been directly after we went those laps down, but I believe within the team it almost clears the mindset that people can perform it.

Weve already proven that you cannot quit in these circumstances. You dont know whats gonna happen, therefore i think going right through that experience certainly helps but, obviously, the team handled the problem great and we could actually put ourselves constantly in place to advance to another round.

Following points reset, Cindric reaches 3006 and must rise four places to create it to the next Round of 8 through the next three events starting at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend. He could be 34 points behind leader Chase Elliott, and seven below the cutline with teammate Ryan Blaney currently holding the final spot to advance.

I believe its certainly easy for us to point our way in to the Round of 8, he said. But I believe anyone who’s in the Round of 8, I believe you need to win a race.

I believe, especially someone in my own points position, Im gonna need to win and I believe Im gonna need to be competitive enough to be racing for wins to anticipate to stay the Championship 4.

That sort of goes without saying, but I believe anyone who thinks theyre gonna make the Championship 4 needs to be winning races in the Round of 8.
