”We have been fusing awareness, healing & fundraising in a single swoop” said the Aware Meditation Inc founder & chronic pain warrior Paula Jane Newman, who has shared her meditation instruction on ABC’s “Celebrity Wife Swap” and on other television programs and podcasts. A U.S. immigrant at 19, she paid her very own way as an initial gen scholar at Carnegie Mellon University but overworked fulfilling the American Dream and within 5 years she sustained a repetitive stress injury within an office which forced her life to show 180. “Everything fell apart, my health, my dreams, my romantic status & my capacity to create money. I simply filmed the initial Pirates of the Caribbean movie and couldn’t even dress myself. I sank into deep depression, was struggling to sleep because of the pain, & my own body developed a tolerance to the prescribed pain medication.” However, it had been her examining the sources of her mental pain that resulted in her physical health shift. “My constant sense of doom and despair was centered in my own mind not my own body. I realized this tracked back beyond when I sustained my injury and the only path to handle the deep rooted trauma issues was to place down all suppressants/mood shifting substances which were masking my knowing of these causes and do the inner work.” It had been during this time period she found meditation to handle anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. She became a teacher of the practices to greatly help other people who were in similar financial situations as herself. “These services ought to be open to all, not only those who are able it. Stress makes all conditions intensify. Release the strain and we’ve a deeper capacity to adapt and heal”.

Aware Meditation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, provides simple, self-sufficient stress reducing techniques targeted at eliminating stress and expanding cognitive capacities. Through its Global Outreach Initiative, Aware Meditation makes instruction open to lower-income and marginalized people free.
