Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is quite acquainted with making headlines through the years along with his comments concerning the team. Its almost an art after 33 years, and 2022 is not any exception. With franchise quarterback Dak Prescott sidelined because of fractured thumb in his throwing hand, backup Cooper Rush stepped in and led the team to back-to-back touchdown drives to start out, a game-winning one for an upset victory on the Cincinnati Bengals.
Following win, jokes were made about Rush competing for the starting job and Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young even said Prescott could learn something or two from his backup. This might have helped spark Jones comments on Thursday, entertaining the thought of a quarterback controversy after Rushs second win as a starter.
Jerry Jones wouldnt mind a QB controversy between Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush. He said hed walk to NY if it meant Rush played so well in the years ahead that the Cowboys had a hardcore decision to create pic.twitter.com/3aG98I3Fx5

Reporters asked Jones if hed want the controversy, to which he responded needless to say I’d if he will come in here and plays and also Prescott played, Rush, played that more than these next games ahead, Id walk to NY to obtain that. Jones ended that statement along with his patented smirk, knowing he’d stir up the crowd.
Jones was alluding to 2016, when Prescott took over for Tony Romo following the latter suffered a vertebra fracture before the season. Jones said he never may have predicted Prescott to become Offensive Rookie of the entire year and lead the team to a 13-3 season.
On the positive for Prescott, his injury is really a short-term one after initial worry he could miss around half the growing season. That provides less time for Jones to improve the temperature in the area if Rush were to lead the team to a couple of more victories. Following the comments about Rush, Jones voiced his belief in Prescott while also speaking for him.
Needless to say we wish Dak to be here in a few days, thats finished ., you do but Dak and I’d like Rush to lead the team to victory and obtain another win and obtain another win, Jones said.
In a blink, Showtime Jerry returned to the level. Jones described when Prescott was leading his historic rookie campaign, saying they took it game-by-game, concentrating on winning and didnt consider the big picture. He also said he believes its likely for Rush to dominate and win games in the manner Prescott did in 2016.When asked about Rushs capacity to help keep Prescott off the field along with his performance, Jones was vague in his answer.
Well it had been impossible that Prescott could play that well to help keep Romo from the championship game.
Whether its a publicity stunt or perhaps a methods to pressure Prescott, Jones has made his stance clear that in his mind’s eye its not 100% his franchise quarterback will retake the field when healthy and Rushs performances on the next few weeks loom large to see if it had been all talk.
