Daniella Monet Calls Out Nickelodeon for Sexualization
Daniella Monet is sharing new information regarding her experience focusing on the group ofVictorious.
Between 2010 and 2013, the actressplayed Trina Vega on the hitNickelodeon series. But as the cast brought a lot of laughs on-screen, Danielle reflected on frustrations she handled behind-the-scenes, including wardrobe that she recalled to Business Insider to be “not age appropriate,” noting that she “wouldn’t even wear a few of that today being an adult.”
The 33-year-old also shared that she contacted Nickelodeonregarding a scene where she ate a pickle while applying lip gloss.Daniella told Business Insider that she expressed concern to the network that she felt the scene was too sexual to air. However, the episode, with the scene fully intact, was ultimately released.
Even though Daniella noted that a lot of of the scenes in Victorious were “very PC, funny, silly, friendly, chill,” she wishes some moments were different.
“Do I wish certain things, like, didn’t need to be sexualized?” she said. “Yeah. One hundred percent.”

News has already reached out to Nickelodeon, Daniella and Victorious creator Dan Schneider for comment and contains not heard back.Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon’s former president of content development and production, stood by the show’s creator, telling Business Insider, “Each and every thing that Dan ever did on some of his shows was carefully scrutinized and approved.”
Back 2020, Daniella and the cast of Victorious participated in a video talk with celebrate the show’s 10-year anniversary. In a previous bout of her Adulting Just like a Mother Father podcast,the actress saidthe virtual reunion lasted two hours and may have gone on even longer.
“We’re able to have been on the website forever,” she sharedin March 2020. “Personally i think like most of us just really enjoyed everyone’s company. A very important factor we discussed on the Zoom call was what exactly are some things we hear going to this day when it comes to our characters?”
Regardingher character, Daniella said that folks always wonder “why I’m not super annoying in personthey think I’m completely different than Trina, that is the idea because we’re playing roles!”
