Doctor who sexually abused patients dies by apparent suicide in NY jail

A once-prominent neurologist convicted last month of sexually abusing patients killed himself on Monday at a NY City jail, two different people familiar with the problem said.

Ricardo Cruciani, 68, was found unresponsive in a shower area partly of the citys notorious Rikers Island complex, individuals said. These were not authorized to speak publicly and did etc condition of anonymity.

He was also scheduled to be on trial next January on federal charges accusing him of abusing multiple patients over 15 years at his offices in NEW YORK, Philadelphia and Hopewell, NJ.

Prosecutors said Cruciani groomed vulnerable patients by overprescribing painkillers, sometimes to take care of serious injuries from car wrecks along with other accidents.

Six women testified the sexual abuse often occurred nowadays during appointments in 2013 at a Manhattan infirmary, where in fact the doctor would expose himself and demand sex.
