Eddie Alvarez amicably parts ways with ONE Championship, enters free agency

Eddie Alvarez is really a free agent again.

The former UFC lightweight champion has officially parted ways with ONE Championship after signing a lucrative multi-fight cope with the promotion back 2018. Alvarez confirmed the news headlines via Twitter following a short report from the South China Morning Post.

Confirmed, I’m no more with ONE, Alvarez wrote. We parted ways amicably and I stick to good terms with the main one team. I would like to thank Chatri [Sityodtong] for the chance and I anticipate watching their continued success. Im officially a free of charge agent and prepared to hunt. Tell me whos next?

Alvarez leaves ONE with a 1-2 record alongside one no contest in his four fights with the business.

His debut within the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix was spoiled after Timofey Nastyukhin finished Alvarez in brutal fashion with a first-round knockout. Alvarez later re-entered the tournament being an alternate where he defeated Eduard Folayang via submission but had to drop from the Grand Prix because of injuries.

Alvarez then suffered a no contest after Iuri Lapicus was struggling to continue following shots which were originally deemed as illegal. ONE later overturned the disqualification to a no contest.

In his last bout with ONE in April 2021, Alvarez lost a unanimous decision to future lightweight champion Ok Rae Yoon.

ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong later revealed an offer was designed for Alvarez to compete on the main one X card in 2022 but he said Philadelphia native rejected a fight against Saygid Izagakhmaev. That has been the final fight booking rumored for Alvarez ahead of his exit from the promotion.

Theres no word yet on where Alvarez might find yourself but hes absolve to sign with any promotion given that hes parted ways with ONE Championship. Ahead of his run with the UFC, Alvarez was a stalwart in Bellator MMA where he served as a two-time lightweight champion.
