Elgin News Digest: Nominees being sought for annual Elgin Image Awards; Carpentersville firefighters selling bomberos T-shirts, gear; Saturday cleanup events planned for Fox River Day

Carpentersville police are investigating a shooting that happened Tuesday morning on the villages east side.

A guy was taken up to a location hospital after he called police to state he previously been shot in the 1500 block of Kings Road near Dundee Crown SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, the authorities department reported via social media marketing.

The senior high school and nearby Perry Elementary School were placed on a soft lock down for a short while as the situation was investigated, the report said.

No home elevators the shooting or the victims condition were provided. Police said there is no danger to the general public or the nearby schools.

Nominations are increasingly being sought for the 2022 Elgin Image Awards presented by the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce.

The awards, that have been placed on hold through the COVID-19 pandemic, can visit a person, organization or perhaps a worthy project that occurred between 2020 and today, organizers said.

Award categories are person that has contributed to improving Elgins image; a fantastic volunteer; a game-changing project; a business or business thats worked to boost Elgins image; a green initiative or business; excellence in building equity; or perhaps a youth service project.

The nomination deadline is Oct. 7. Winners will undoubtedly be announced Nov. 1.

The Kane County Regional Office of Education is holding a weekly student photography contest starting Monday, Sept. 26, and running right through Monday, Nov. 21.

Available to all students in Kane County, submitted photos will undoubtedly be reviewed by way of a Regional Office of Education committee, with the very best 10 winners published on the offices website, www.KaneROE.org, and its own Facebook page.

Teachers approve their students photos and so are in charge of verifying the authenticity and providing information for every submission. You will see another theme for every week.

Carpentersville FIREMEN Local 4790 is selling a type of T-shirts, baseball caps along with other gear with a bomberos logo to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

Union members will be wear the T-shirts while working for the month starting Sept. 15. All proceeds will undoubtedly be donated to local nonprofits.

Bomberos is Spanish for firefighter.

Prices start at $17 and gear will come in adult and childrens sizes. Orders could be placed through Sept. 25 by visiting cvillebomberos.itemorder.com/shop/home.

Friends of the Fox River is hosting a wide selection of events Saturday, Sept. 17, within the annual Fox River Day.

Included in this will undoubtedly be riverbank cleanups starting at 8 a.m. at the north parking large amount of Otto Engineering at Main and Wisconsin streets in Carpentersville; 9 a.m. at Voyagers Landing Forest Preserve, 50 Airport Road, Elgin; and 10 a.m. at Trout Park Rivers Edge, south of the Interstate 90 overpass in Elgin.
