Evans: Challenging to translate Rovanperas WRC techniques

Evans started the growing season on the list of favourites to challenge for the WRC title after finishing runner-up to Sebastien Ogier for the prior two campaigns, but this season the Welshman has been struggling to defeat Toyota team-mate Rovanpera in the Rally1 hybrid cars.

Rovanpera has won five of seven events this season to move right into a commanding 83-point lead in the championship.

Evans pushed Rovanpera close in Sweden ahead of crashing from the ultimate day, and led the Finn in the Portugal, Kenya and Estonia rounds prior to going to finish second behind his stablemate.

In those events, Rovanpera shows superior confidence and speed in tricky wet conditions which includes helped the 21-year-old find an advantage over Evans.

Toyota boss Jari-Matti Latvala attributed Rovanperas advantage to the young drivers extracurricular activities competing in drifting events.

Evans has studied Rovanperas style and knows the areas where his team-mate is succeeding.

I believe he finds lots of confidence in the torrential rain and particularly when the grip is really a little more mixed, maybe there’s something in his trend that is suiting him a little more, Evans told Motorsport.com. It really is definitely not a location I’ve excelled in this season at the very least.

Im pretty alert to a few of the items that is being conducted but it isn’t always an easy task to just translate that.

Wet weather is again predicted because of this weekends stop by at Rovanperas homeland of Finland, the scene of arguably Evans greatest WRC win last season.

After scoring three second place finishes within the last four events Evans says his confidence is building following a difficult begin to the entire year, but is fully expecting a hardcore task to accomplish another consecutive Rally Finland win, to be able to open his take into account the entire year.

Needless to say I’ve mixed feelings once we wanted more from the recent rallies, but Im pleased to be at the very least more frequently on the podium when compared to start of year, since it really wasnt this type of good start, he said.

Im just feeling we are in need of several wins really to get that last little bit of momentum. It’s been a tricky year up to now.

Asked if time for Finland will be a good rally to secure the yet elusive win this season, he said: In the event that you pass normal form most likely not as you can find so many fast Scandinavians this season.

Lets see. We arrived at each rally attempting to give our best shot which is not any exception.

Rally Finland begins on Thursday night with the initial of 22 competitive stages.
