The comic book version of Flashpoint allowed the writers to reboot the universe and rethink many characters. Presumably, the movie version could do exactly the same for a disjointed and chaotic DCEU.

The studio billed The Justice League as DCs response to The Avengers franchise. However the film struggled at the box office and many key players, including Superman actor Henry Cavill and Batman actor Ben Affleck, have since expressed their need to leave the superhero universe. Meanwhile, Gal Gadots Wonder Woman and Jason Momoas Aquaman are set to keep their individual franchises. Warner Bros. has said it generally does not intend to keep on the storyline that Zack Snyder had begun to create with Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and his cut of The Justice League.

Meanwhile, DC has been churning out a great deal of movies which have nothing in connection with each other. The studio has introduced three separate Batman franchises, one involving Affleck, another where Joaquin Phoenix plays the Joker while Bruce Wayne continues to be a child, yet another where Robert Pattinson plays the Caped Crusader. So far as we realize, these Batmen all exists in various universes.

The studio also produced a sequel-slash-reboot of The Suicide Squad with James Gunns Suicide Squad (note the missing article) without ever quite answering the question of ho both films linked to one another and whether Gunns version continues to exist in exactly the same universe as Afflecks Batman and Millers The Flash. And the forthcoming antihero movie Black Adam, starring Dwayne the Rock Johnson, may exist in a single or none of the universes.

The Flash was set for connecting each one of these various storylines and explain what on earth is being conducted in this cinematic world, similar to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduced and linked parallel timelines. Warner Bros. has revealed that in The Flash, Barry Allen will encounter at the very least two different Batmen from different universes: Ben Afflecks from the Snyder films and Michael Keatons from the Tim Burton films. It might be the very first time Keaton donned Batmans cape in 34 years, and the trailer suggests he plays a significant role in the movie.

The Flash may also give Warner Bros. the chance going to the reset button. The studio could fulfill Afflecks wishes to retire from franchise fare by killing him off or recasting the part through parallel timeline shenanigans. They might also kill off whichever other characters arent working and replace them with new people and storylines.

But that same report also suggested that Warner Bros. would consider shelving the movie if Miller continued to behave badly. Considering Miller plays the films titular character, it really is unlikely the movie could mount an effective advertising campaign for the film, at the very least as things stand now, without significant backlash.

As though your choice werent already complicated enough, Miller reaches the biggest market of another major Warner Bros: franchise: the Fantastic Beasts movies. The studio has continued release a those Harry Potter prequels despite mounting controversy around author J.K. Rowling, former star Johnny Depp, and today current star Miller. The studios release technique for Fantastic Beasts might indicate that bad headlines won’t deter them from churning out their expensive franchise fare.

Warner Bros. didn’t immediately react to request for touch upon the continuing future of The Flash film and DCEU franchise.

The fate of the DCEU may hang in the total amount.

After attempting to undertake Marvel at the box office pre-pandemic and largely falling flat, Warner Bros. has had a see what sticks method of churning out DC superhero films. Any expect a cohesive storyline across all of the movies and television series appears to be lost.

Thats probably fine with fans: Maintaining twelve movies and Television shows per years to comprehend the proceedings in the MCU could be exhausting. And Warner Bros. has found success with individual blockbusters, like The Batman and Aquaman.

However the question of whether to shelve The Flash comes amid a significant shakeup at parent company Warner Bros. Discovery. The studio surprised Hollywood by canceling the near-completed $90 million Batgirl film that were designed for HBO Max. Warner Bros. Discovery contextualized your choice inside a larger technique to pivot from making films for streaming. Thats a significant shift for a studio that released all its films right to streaming for per year through the pandemic to develop HBO Max subscriptions.

Still, the Batgirl cancellation shows that few properties in the DCEU are safewhether they’re designed for the big or small screen. In accordance with The Hollywood Reporter, Hamada nearly quit following the Batgirl cancellation. If he does find yourself leaving, a fresh head of DC films could completely retool the universe.

From then on, Warner Bros. has confirmed theyre focusing on several sequels to recent hits, including a third Wonder Woman movie with director Patty Jenkins and star Gadot, a sequel to The Batman with Matt Reeves time for write and direct and Pattinson reprising the role of the Dark Knight, andperhaps most surprisinglya musical followup to The Joker starring the one and only Lady Gaga as Jokers paramour Harley Quinn.

Its unclear whether The Flash impacts the plots of these films in a way that removing the film from the slate would wreak havoc on the studios larger arrange for the DCEU. But without doubt the more pressing concern for Warner Bros. is if they can earn back the amount of money theyve committed to a film that has been likely to welcome back a fan-favorite character in Keatons Batman and launch a fresh star in the franchise. Given Millers unpredictable good and the bad lately, those dreams could be dashed.
