Facebooks Metaverse Will Misfire: Ethereum Co-founder Vitalik Buterin

Ethereum co-founder, Vitalik Buterin today, July 31, said that corporate attempts at the metaverse will undoubtedly be unsuccessful. More specifically, he added that Facebooks metaverse will misfire. He was giving an answer to the tweets by blockchain auditor, Dean Eigenmann. Lets have a closer look at what Vitalik Buterin said about corporate attempts at building metaverses.

What did Vitalik Buterin say about corporate attempts at the metaverse?

Last day, Eigenmann tweeted they were struggling to formulate their applying for grants the metaverse. All of the ideas on concepts make sensebut I still usually do not believe it’ll happen in the ways VCs are funding.

My critique is deeper than Metaverse Wikipedia will beat Metaverse Encyclopedia Britannica, he further tweeted. Its that people dont really know this is of the metaverse yet, its much too early to learn what folks actually want. So anything Facebook creates now will misfire.

Corporates and the metaverse

Since early this past year, a slew of corporate organizations has hopped on the metaverse bandwagon. Facebook, for example, rebranded itself to Meta to create a metaverse in October 2021. Immediately after, Microsoft revealed its metaverse plans. Whats more, NFTs are actually on Facebook and Instagram. Unfortunately, Reality Labs, Facebooks metaverse unit, lost $2.8 billion in Q2 2022.

As Vitalik Buterin wrote, theres still plenty of confusion in what exactly a metaverse is. While several community members agreed along with his metaverse views, several others disagreed.
