Georges St-Pierre names two UFC fighters he wished he faced before retiring

Georges St-Pierre has fought a whos-who of MMA, but you can find two opponents he’d have loved to handle.

St-Pierre (26-2 MMA, 20-2 UFC), a former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion, holds notable wins over B.J. Penn twice, Matt Hughes twice, Carlos Condit and his final MMA fight Michael Bisping, when he dethroned the Brit to become UFC middleweight champion in November 2017.

The UFC Hall of Famer widely is undoubtedly one of the biggest fighters ever sold, but two superfights alluded him: former UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva (34-11 MMA, 17-7 UFC) and recently retired ex-UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov (29-0 MMA, 13-0 UFC).

I usually wished to be referred to as the best and become the very best, and you can find two fights that never materialized which could have already been made but also for certain reasons didn’t materialize, St-Pierre said within an interview with Helen Yee. The initial one was against Anderson Silva, and another one was against Khabib, but also for certain reasons it didn’t happen.

When asked why those fights never happened, St-Pierre said all parties involved couldnt arrived at an agreement.

When youre a fighter, you will need both fighters and the promoter to create a fight happen, St-Pierre said. Even though both fighters want, however the promoter doesnt make it work, its not likely to happen. Each fighter brings their terms they want, they negotiate, and its around the promoter to create that happen. It didn’t happen for both of these guys.

With St-Pierre being almost five years retired and Nurmagomedov having no intentions of competing in MMA again, St-Pierre is available to a grappling match with The Eagle.

Maybe 1 day I will execute a grappling match, and when its for an excellent cause and its own well organized, you won’t ever know, St-Pierre said. Each time I say something similar to this, people get excited and rumors start. Nevertheless, you which were retired, and Im good where I’m, and Im sure hes good where he could be. And when these fights didn’t happen, its because my side we’d requests, we’d fine print that if they might accept the terms, we’d prepare yourself to part of and make the fight. However they didnt reach those terms.

Fights are created also due to the fans, due to the two guys, the promoter but additionally, timing includes a lot related to it. Anderson Silva and I, and Khabib and I, its always a question of timing. In the event that you get this to fight today, its not likely to function as same because we lost the timing.
