Gilbert Melendez confirms hes not retired, ready to fight again for the proper opportunity: I’ll continually be a fighter

Former UFC title challenger Gilbert Melendez isnt done competing at this time.

El Nino hasnt experienced action since his fight with Arnold Allen at UFC 239 in July 2019. For the reason that outing, Melendez lost by unanimous decision. The defeat was the fifth straight for the former title challenger.

In the interview, the 40-year-old managed to get clear that hes aware hes not in his prime anymore. However, that fighting spirit that carried him for his entire career remains. If the proper chance arose, Melendez would join it.

Are you aware that right opportunity, hes uncertain where it may be. However, Melendez is ready to fight for Khabib Nurmagomedovs Eagle FC. Hes also ready to link up with former promoter Scott Coker, for a return over in Bellator.

I’ll continually be a fighter, and I play the role of as optimal as you possibly can. I understand Im shifting as a specialist fighter. Im no more focused on being truly a prizefighter. Im concentrating on my gyms and producing athletes and residing in shape. But needless to say, its hard to totally hang it up. If theres an excellent opportunity on the market and its the proper fight, Im not into fighting youngsters who wish to stick and move and kick my leg and run, but I really do love fighting and I possibly could definitely be enticed another. Theres that fight in me.

Gilbert Melendez continued, I really like fighting, and when I were to fight [again] Eagle FC, great organization. I believe if theres anyone who really promoted me well, it had been Scott Coker. And I’m thinking about maybe even boxing, a few of that stuff does interest me. And I really do get hungry.
