The Washington Post, whichfirst reported the emails to Wisconsin lawmakers, also obtained messages from Thomas to lawmakers in Arizona, another battleground state, urging similar actions.

Bernier told the Journal Sentinel it is possible Thomas sent emails to all or any Wisconsin lawmakers, but she and Tauchen were the only real ones to help keep them. State law allows legislators to delete any emailthat have not yet been requested by the general public.

“Its nothing like she sat down and typed out a contact if you ask me and Gary Tauchen,” Bernier said within an interview.

The Journal Sentinel in June requested any email correspondence from Thomas to Assembly Speaker Robin Vos since July 2020. Vos’ aides said any office had no records attentive to the request.

On a single day Thomas emailed Bernier and Tauchen, Thomas sent similar messages to Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers and 26 other Republican lawmakers, based on the Post.

Bernier, a Republican from Chippewa Falls and a former Chippewa County clerk, has long criticized her Republican colleagues for embracing Trump’s false claims of voter fraud, but she said Thomas’ email came at the same time when Trump’s claims were first ramping up also it was more challenging to see whether problems occurred.

“You need to consider the timeframe when that email went,” she said.

“Would it not be logical and easy for the Legislature to state ‘hold the telephone,’ we will decertify the election, we will have a recount, or perhaps a do-over, or whatever that has been probably potentially realistic, therefore i dont think its outlandish at all shape or form,” Bernier said concerning the timeframe of the e-mail. “But after, approaching Jan. 6 (2021), now it becomes outlandish.”

The emails to Wisconsin lawmakers came at the same time when Trump and his supporters were filing lawsuits on the upshot of the election and launching recounts in the Democratic counties of Dane and Milwaukee, where Trump sought to get rid of thousands of ballots.

Thomas’ decision to send messages to lawmakers in battleground states to overturn President Joe Biden’s victories has raised questions about whether her husband, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, should recuse himself from cases relating to the 2020 presidential election.

Bernier said Ginni Thomas’ actions shouldn’t think about her husband.

“Regardless of what your partner does, your children, your loved ones members, whatever they’re involved with, you’ve kept your First Amendment rights. I’m sure if she felt it could adversely impact Justice Thomas, she might not have decided to accomplish it however the simple fact could it be was probably her very own opinion.

“I really do have a pity party for the indegent lady,” Bernier said.

Democratic Sen. Kelda Roys of Madison, an associate of the Senate’s elections committee, disagreed.

“The wife of a Supreme Court justice and pusher of the big lie pleading w/ Republicans to overturn the 2020 election is really a bigger deal than anyone is ready to say aloud,” she said in a tweet Thursday.
