God Save the King: British national anthem changes lyrics after Queens death

The lyrics of Britains national anthem have already been changed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The long-reigning monarch, 96, died Thursday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, with her eldest child, Charles, now ascending the throne.

Honoring the UKs new royal ruler, the national anthem has been tweaked from God Save The Queen to God Save The King.

This content of the song will stay exactly the same, with the term queen simply being swapped for king, and the she/her pronouns changed to he/him.

The national anthem was written back 1745 and was originally titled God Save The King honoring then-ruler King George III.

The song didn’t end up being the countrys anthem before early 1800s.

Since that time, the anthem has switched backwards and forwards between God Save The King and God Save The Queen, with respect to the sex of the monarch.

On Thursday, many Britons took to Twitter say it might be weird to listen to the changed national anthem after 70 years of God Save The Queen.

Perhaps Britains national anthem switches back again to God Save the King thats gonna be weird for some time, one stated.

Meanwhile, another chimed in saying the united states would subsequently alter in an array of other small ways, too.

I cannot emphasize enough just how much Britain changes in the year ahead, they wrote. New monarch. New money. New national anthem. New stamps. It’ll change in one thousand seemingly minor, but major ways.

The death of the Queen Elizabeth II came on Thursday evening British time, just hours after Buckingham Palace announced that her doctors have been concerned on her behalf Majestys health.

Charles released a statement following the death was announced, mourning his late mother.

The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty, The Queen, is really a moment of the best sadness for me personally and all members of my children, the 76-year-old said.

We mourn profoundly the passage of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I understand her loss will undoubtedly be deeply felt through the entire country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people all over the world.

Charless coronation isn’t expected to happen for months, because the country enters an extended amount of mourning.

His wife, Camila, 75, will undoubtedly be calledthe Queen Consort.
