Goiti Yamauchi honored to fight a Gracie, headline first Bellator event: ‘There’s something meaningful in this fight’

Goiti Yamauchis go back to the cage holds a lot of significance.

Despite having over 30 fights logged as a specialist and being probably one of the most experienced fighters on the Bellator roster, Yamauchi (27-5 MMA, 13-4 BMMA) sees Fridays Bellator 284 bout as a distinctive and special moment in his career.

Bellator 284 will undoubtedly be Yamauchis first main event bout in his nine years with the promotion and hell also be fighting Neiman Gracie, an associate of the legendary Gracie family.

To begin with, Im fighting in my own first main event, my first five rounds thats really meaningful, Yamauchi said during Wednesdays pre-fight media day. Everybody that gets a primary event in a large promotion, thats a particular moment.

But what really helps it be important and meaningful, is fighting against a man who originates from the household that made this work here. Gracie family, theyre so vital that you me. Not only for me, but also for all of the fight community. Theres something meaningful in this fight.

The Gracie family is in charge of the creation of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. And its own no secret Gracie (11-3 MMA, 9-3 BMMA) follows the tradition, given hes probably the most talented grapples in Bellator.

Twenty-one of the 27 victories Yamauchi has as a specialist attended by submission. He, too, is really a standout grappler in the promotion. The 29-year-old want to measure his grappling skills against a Gracie, but its not at all something hes likely to force.

I’d want to, Yamauchi explained. I never start to see the fight game as, I would like to test myself. That might be too stupid easily just take action for my ego. Like I stated before, Im likely to win the fight.

EASILY need to fight five rounds on the floor, Im good. EASILY need to go five rounds in the striking, Im also very good and comfortable. Its about taking the proper opportunities rather than making many mistakes.
