After the dust settles on Donovan Mitchell and Kevin Durant, the Miami Heat could reportedly set their sights on Nikola Vucevic.
Sean Deveney of Heavy.com spoke to 1 league executive who floated the thought of heat sending Duncan Robinson and Omer Yurtseven to the Chicago Bulls for Vucevic. The executive said:
The Bulls had some fascination with Duncan Robinson before and when heat really wanted Vuc, that may be the foundation of a deal, Vuc for Robinson. HEAT would need to add [Omer] Yurtseven, give Chicago a large guy to utilize. And the Bulls may possibly want them to get back Tony Bradley merely to have a bit more money beneath the tax in the event they would like to put in a guy.
From the pure asset standpoint, this appears like extremely wishful thinking on the executive’s part.
Robinson’s five-year, $90 million contract is arguably the worst deal signed in the summertime of 2021. He spent the majority of the 2021-22 season fighting his one high-level NBA skill (shooting) and was jettisoned from the rotation in the playoffs. HEAT likely still owe Robinson $64.4 million; it’s hard to assume his trade value being any lower.
Yurtseven flashed some plus rebounding in limited minutes last season, but he’s a 24-year-old former undrafted free agent. It is possible he develops right into a net-positive playerhe had a minus-1.0 box plus/minus last season, per Basketball Referencebut he tops out as a job player.
The sum of the those two players will not come near scratching the top of Vucevic’s valueespecially given what the Bulls quit to trade for him in 2021. Chicago sent a promising young big in Wendell Carter Jr., a pick that became the No. 8 selection in the 2021 draft and a 2023 first-round pick that carries light protections to land Vucevic.
While he’s nearly lived around the All-Star expectations, Vucevic continues to be a fantastic, versatile offensive center playing for a team with playoff aspirations. There is no world where trading him is practical unless the Bulls get yourself a player who serves as an improved fit.
Robinson isn’t it, given the roster has already been loaded with guys who is able to play the two 2 and 3. Yurtseven will be a seismic downgrade atlanta divorce attorneys sense.
It could border on front-office malpractice if this deal transpired.
