House Democrats pass Assault Weapons Ban with GOP support after moderates get cold feet

THE HOME of Representatives passed legislation on Friday that could ban most semi-automatic weapons currently used in the U.S, including AR-15s.

The Assault Weapons Ban of 2021 Act, first introduced by Democratic Rhode Island Rep. David Cicilline, would ban semi-automatic weapons which contain a magazine, a pistol or forward grip and a folding, telescoping, or detachable stock. Two-hundred and fifteen Democrats and two Republicans supported the legislation, while 208 out of 213 no votes originated from Republicans. The bill isn’t likely to pass the Senate.

These military-style weapons were created for the battlefield, with maximum efficiency for whenever a soldier is engaged in combat. The military features banned by this bill are put into make these guns more accurate, more controllable, more concealable, and much more deadly, Cicilline said in a floor speech urging colleagues to aid the regulation.

House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerrold Nadler of NY touted the bill throughout a committee markup as banning weapons which are in keeping use over the U.S.

The thing is that theyre in keeping use, he said during an exchange with Republican NEW YORK Rep. Dan Bishop. (RELATED: Democratic Rep Promises To Abolish The Filibuster And Expand The Supreme Court If He Doesnt Get His Way On Gun Control)

NY Rep. Chris Jacobs, 1 of 2 Republicans to aid the bill, said soon after the Buffalo, NY mass shooting he’d support an assault weapons ban. He announced his retirement seven days later.

For years the Democrats told us, weren’t coming for the guns. Yes, they’re. THE NEXT Amendment is really as clear as possible. Thats their beef, the next Amendment says the proper to help keep and bear arms shall not be infringed however they dont care, Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan said in a floor speech.

They dont value that fundamental liberty law-abiding citizens in this country enjoy. And theyre coming for the firearms.
