After the explosive Kim-Jimmy breakup in Fun and Games fourteen days ago, it seemed possible that people could not see nor hear from Kim Wexler again on Better Call Saul. And technically we havent: Rhea Seehorn and her perfect ponytail didn’t arrive on-camera the other day in Nippy, plus they do not come in this weeks installment, Breaking Bad. However, the start of the episode doles out some important new information regarding Kims whereabouts while still leaving a lot of open questions for the series to hopefully resolve in its remaining two episodes. Here, what we realize (just a little) and what we dont (substantially more) about how exactly Kim does after Breaking Bad:
Is Kim Wexler alive?
Since Kim isn’t a character in Breaking Bad, some viewers have long assumed that she must die at some time between your preBreaking Bad events in Better Call Saul and Jimmys transformation into Gene post-Saul. But that’s not the case. When Jimmy checks in with Francesca, Saul Goodmans assistant, to take the temperature of things in Albuquerque, he learns the Feds remain hovering. Francesca has been followed, and Kim called to be sure of her after seeing the news headlines that Heisenbergs meth business got busted. Kim also asked if Jimmy was alive. His spirits lift upon hearing this, and he immediately decides to call her, that is how we understand that Kim Wexler is alive (yay!) and surviving in Florida (um, yay?).
But how is Kim Wexler doing?
There is absolutely no solution to know whether Kim is happy, sad, or meh, however the evidence suggests her life reaches least much less stressful. She works at a location called Palm Coast Sprinklers, employment that, I suppose, will not put her in touch with a huge amount of murderous drug dealers. She also lives in Titusville, a town that seems deliberately chosen because of its proximity to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center. Its fitting for Kim Wexler, a lawyer who came so near greatness on her behalf own terms, to call home adjacent to a location where people regularly aim for the stars.
Kim seems to have set very specific boundaries around her connection with Jimmy, that is to state she wants nothing in connection with him. When Jimmy reaches Palm Coast Sprinklers and asks to consult with her, we cant hear whats said next due to the sound of Nebraska-highway traffic. But Jimmy immediately turns animated and angry, which means that the receptionist has been instructed never to subjected to any calls that appear to be theyre from the con artist Kim once called her husband.
It really is clear, from Kims call to Francesca to Jimmys almost boyish reaction to hearing about this call (She asked about me?), that neither has forgotten concerning the other. Despite the fact that their relationship has ended, they still make it using them Jimmy literally, by means of his Kansas City Royals lunch box, a nod to Kims favorite T-shirt. The question now could be whether well reach see Kim again on Better Call Saul and in what context. Maybe shell visit Jimmy in jail? Or testify against him in court?
And how is Kim Wexlers ponytail, the barometer of her emotional state?
That is pure conjecture, but I suspect Florida Kim has completely abandoned her ponytail and either lets her hair flow free or pins it up casually when its extra hot. The times of attempting to appear to be the put-together professional she was so with the capacity of being? My guess is those are well behind her.
