HP’s construction robot puts blueprints on site floors

Construction industry workers might soon save money time building and less time preparing. HP has unveiled a SitePrint robot that autonomously prints layouts on construction site floors. By using a handy remote control tablet and cloud tools, the device can outline walls, doors along with other elements with little intervention it could avoid unexpected obstacles, including steep drops. The business claims the bot can finish a layout in a “fraction” of that time period humans require, although this can vary by the complexity of the project.

The robot includes two batteries that may each handle around four hours of printing. It could print on surfaces like concrete, plywood and terrazzo, even though they’re rough. You may also choose inks that last days or months to match the timeline for confirmed job.

HP is making the SitePrint robot open to UNITED STATES companies this month within an early on access program. The finished automaton and a full-scale launch are due sometime in 2023. The hardware was already tested with projects which range from airports to hospitals.

There’s clearly a problem SitePrint might automate people out of jobs. The robot only requires one operator versus both or three people typically necessary for manual layouts. However, its timing may be particularly apt. As in lots of other fields, the construction industry is grappling with labor shortages. Robots like SitePrint may help builders take full advantage of limited staff, or undertake more ambitious tasks without hiring larger crews.
