I really do believe its a mismatch but Diaz wont decrease quietly DC

Add Daniel Cormier to the growing set of fighters worried about Nate Diazs safety heading into his welterweight matchup with Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279.

Cormier acknowledges Diaz is really a legend of the activity and is really as tough because they come but thinks the Stockton, Calif. local has little to nothing to get from fighting Khamzat at this time in his career, labeling the fight a mismatch.

Having said that, DC doesnt expect Diaz, 37, to decrease quietly in what could possibly be his final fight in the UFC against Chimaev.

Guess what happens RC, I dont think that Nate will decrease quietly, Cormier said on the DC & RC podcast (h/t I simply think that at this time within their careers, Nate is on another path than Khamzat Chimaev. Nate will let you know theres still championship aspirations because hes a fighter and is really as tough because they come. However when you look at what hes done recently, you cant just say Nate Diaz is in title contention. Popularity-wise, sure. However in terms of what hes placed on paper in regards to his fighting, you cant say that.

Khamzat is just of what you will expect a soon-to-be title challenger to be, he added. If he gets past Nate Diaz, which is his biggest win up to now, despite the fact that the Gilbert Burns fight was fun, you won’t be as valuable as a make an impression on Nathan Diaz I believe these guys come in different points of these careers at this time, and I really believe its a mismatch.

The five-round, non-title fight main event will mark Diazs last fight on his current deal, with THE BEST Fighter 5 winner likely to explore free agency following bout.

UFC 279: Chimaev vs. Diaz occurs on Sept. 10 at the T-Mobile Arena in NEVADA, Nevada.
