Impact wasted short amount of time Thursday, kicking off with the blockbuster championship clash between Knockouts Tag Team champions VXT (Chelsea Green and Deonna Purrazzo) and the tandem of Mia Yim and Knockouts World champion Jordynne Grace.

The champions put their opponents on the defensive, isolating Yim from her partner and working her over within their corner. Miscalculations by Purrazzo and Green allowed Yim to generate separation and tag Grace in to the match.

The powerhouse of the Knockouts division sparked a comeback but Green cut Yim off throughout a tope suicida attempt, then hung Grace through to the ropes, allowing her to become listed on The Virtuosa in the ring for The Pendulum for the win.

This is a good opening to the show, with great teamwork by the champions plus some solid offense from Grace and Yim. The commentary team did an excellent job of fabricating tension between your challengers but Yim and Grace didn’t necessarily back that up with anything they did through the match.

That issue aside, this is a solid showcase for the Knockouts division and something that put over Green and Purrazzo as dominant champions. Yim and Grace will bounce back quickly and without the harm to their credibility, causeing this to be a highly effective segment.

  • Commentator Tom Hannifan planted seeds supporting the theory that Yim and Grace may still not be on a single page, citing the actual fact Yim never really had to be able to accept her partner’s show of respect back at Emergence, because of an interruption by Masha Slamovich.
  • Dueling chants for Grace and Green highlighted how on the competitors are with the Impact faithful.
  • The production team either did an excellent job of disguising an ugly miss by Yim on the tope suicida spot or perhaps a terrible job of capturing Green cutting her off.

The battle between Honor FORGET ABOUT and Bullet Club continued this week with Impact World Tag Team rather than Openweight champion Karl Anderson battling Mike Bennett.

A loss for Bennett would banish his wife, Maria Kanellis, from ringside when he and Matt Taven challenge for the tag titles contrary to the Good Brothers.

Bennett overcame an early on onslaught by Machine Gun before grounding him and working him over with a rear chin lock. Anderson fought back, chopping his way to avoid it of the grasp of his opponent.

The action was backwards and forwards down the stretch before Anderson delivered Gun Stun for the pinfall victory, ensuring Kanellis will never be mixed up in upcoming tag team title match.

This is the initial showdown ever between Anderson and Bennett, which seems extremely difficult considering their long history of working together, against one another in tag matches and over the independent scene.

Having said that, this was an extremely solid match between two grizzled veterans. Bennett, specifically, looked great and really should be looked at for a singles run with the business. He has been an underrated in-ring worker and a chance to showcase his skills in a singles match such as this was long overdue.

Removing Kanellis from ringside for the upcoming title match may be the proper call, particularly if the program is for Bennett and Taven to take the titles. A comparatively clean win enhances them in the eyes of the Impact fans and starts their run near the top of the tag division on the proper foot.

Digital Media champion Brian Myers joined Hannifan and Rehwoldt at ringside as his rival, Bhupinder Gujjar, battled newcomer Jason Hotch in singles action.

Hotch seemed to have Gujjar where he wanted him late in the match but an ill-fated somersault in to the ring landed him in the waiting arms of his opponent, who delivered a spinebuster that drove him in to the mat.

Gujjar added a spear from the center rope for the win.

Following the match, Myers entered the ring and attacked the victor, attacking him with the microphone and driving him in to the mat.

Gujjar continued showing the talent essential to be among the stars of Impact’s future. He’s surprisingly smooth at this stage in his career which match, against another young star in Hotch, was a good enhancement one.

The post-match, with Gujjar withstanding an attack by Myers and benefitting from the help of Scott Armstrong, was classic sports entertainment that furthered the feud on the Digital Media title. Considering that is what this segment clearly attempt to do, it really is difficult to grade it not an extremely average “C.”

Impact World champion Josh Alexander will reduce the chances of Honor No More’s Eddie Edwards at Bound For Glory however the Walking Weapon battled a different one of the Ring of Honor exports Thursday night as he squared off with Vincent.

An excellent, competitive match saw the enigmatic heel come near knocking off Alexander, particularly when he delivered Redrum. Alexander, ever the resilient champion, fought his in the past in to the match and delivered the C-4 Spike for the win.

Following the match, Edwards interrupted the victor’s celebration, telling Alexander he’s got stood around Impact Wrestling and asking him which side he’ll choose. “We are able to head to battle at Bound For Glory yet we are able to stand together in this war!” he exclaimed.

Before he could finish his rambling promo, Heath slid in to the ring and delivered the WAKE-YOU-UP CALL to Edwards, his latest attack in his vendetta against Honor FORGET ABOUT.

The match itself was fine for what it had been, even though somewhat unspectacular. Vincent is really a solid wrestler having an even larger personality. He’s got yet to be properly presented to the Impact faithful in a manner that maximizes his potential and makes probably the most of what it really is he does well.

Edwards’ promo was poorly conceived for the reason that there is no reason to trust Alexander would ever turn against Impact and join Honor FORGET ABOUT. He is not just a Ring of Honor export, nor does he hate the business he champions. It made little sense and mercifully ended with the most recent attack by Heath.

The artist formerly referred to as Havok made her return Thursday night as Jessicka, battling Alisha Edwards in singles competition.

Edwards set up a competitive fight, as she typically does whenever she gets ring time on Impact Wrestling, but she ultimately fell to the Rikishi Driver as Jessicka earned her first win under this new persona.

This is an excellent introduction to a performer Impact fans are aware of, but whose new personality is somewhat of a mystery.

She actually is more fun-loving, incorporates a catchphrase of “sick” and seemingly gets the crowd invested early. Whether it remains this way may be the question.

Violent By Design’s Eric Young, Deaner and Joe Doering battled Time Machine’s Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin and Kushida in six-man tag team action to close this week’s show.

The heels seized control of the match entering the ultimate commercial break of the night time, downing Sabin and working on the former world champion within their corner of the ring. A tag to Kushida turned the tide in the babyfaces’ favor.

Time Machine destroyed the heels at ringside but Young and Co. recovered, the first choice of VBD delivering a top-rope elbow drop on Sabin.

The master of the Cradle Shock fought out of a piledriver attempt and made the much-needed tag. Shelley and Kushida unloaded with tandem offense and Sabin joined in later and delivered his trademark finisher to Deaner for the win.

This is an excellent tag team main event, with Sabin, Kushida and Shelley gelling perfectly. Their timing was impeccable, their offense dazzling and the crowd’s love for them undeniable. They meshed well with the more punishing, physical design of their opponents and the effect was the very best match on the show and the debut of a trio that fans will champ at the bit to see again.

  • Rehwoldt labeled Young “The Designer.” Whether deliberately or not, that is clearly a killer nickname and something Impact should consider trademarking.
  • Deaner ate the pinfall, which plays in to the storyline where he could be eager, overzealous even, to prove his worth to Young.
