In reversal, Arizona GOP House leader says he’ll ‘never’ vote for Trump again

Arizona House Speaker Rusty Bowers said Sunday that he won’t again support Donald Trump for president, a turnabout from his previous stance that he would back the Republican in another matchup against President Biden.

Ill never vote for him, but I wont need to. Because I believe Americas tired and theres some absolutely forceful, qualified, morally defensible and upright people, and thats what I’d like, the Republican state lawmaker told ABCs This Week. Thats what I’d like in my own party and thats what I wish to see.

Mr. Bowers continued to unleash choice words for Mr. Trump, labeling the former president a demagogue who holds onto his sway within the GOP with thuggery and intimidation.

I’ve thought, sometimes, someone born how he was, raised how he was he does not have any idea just what a hard life is and what folks have to proceed through in real life, Mr. Bowers said. He does not have any idea what courage is.

As recently as last month, he suggested he would support Mr. Trump. However, that has been before Mr. Bowers testified prior to the House Jan. 6 Committee about Mr. Trumps efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Arizona.

Since his televised primetime testimony, Mr. Trump labeled him a coward along with other Republicans have called him a traitor, Mr. Bowers said.

Mr. Trump have not yet officially announced a 2024 candidacy. He is regarded as waiting until following the November midterms, a move that Republicans on Capitol Hill have lobbied him to take action concerning avoid handicapping their likelihood of taking back control of Congress.
