Shortly following a report surfaced that the Boston Celtics had offered Jaylen Brown in a package to the Brooklyn Nets in trade for disgruntled star forward Kevin Durant, Celtics forward Jayson Tatum managed to get clear that he’s pleased with the team’s roster as currently constructed.

“I used [Durant] through the Olympics,” Tatum said while talking with media members at the premiere of the Showtime documentary ‘Point Gods.”http://www.cbssports.com/”Obviously, he’s an excellent player, but that isn’t my decision. I really like our team. I really like the guys that people got.

“We got two new pieces [in Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari],” he added. “I really like our team. I simply venture out there and play with my teammates. I don’t put that [general manager] hat to make decisions.”

Tatum also questioned the veracity of the report, pointing out the truth that similar reports have already been incorrect previously.

“I have no idea if that report holds true or not… I don’t think everything I see on TV,” Tatum said. “I’ve seen some [expletive] on me that has been a lie. You won’t ever really know what’s true or what’s incorrect.”

Given the truth that Tatum made these comments publicly, it is possible they don’t reflect how he truly feels concerning the situation. In the end, he’s unlikely to state, “Yeah, I’d like the team to trade away Jaylen Brown,” even though he actually does. But simultaneously, Tatum has cause to be pleased with Boston’s roster as currently constructed.

The team was only two wins from winning a championship last month, and they’ve improved in some recoverable format on the offseason with the additions of Brodgon and Gallinari. It’s genuinely possible that Tatum doesn’t desire to start to see the roster altered in a significant way following the success that they had last season.

Ultimately though, your choice has gone out of Tatum’s hands. If Boston’s front office wants him badly enough and is ready to meet up with the exceedingly steep price tag, then perhaps Durant will start next season in a Celtics uniform.
