Jesse Bam Rodriguez earns a unanimous decision victory over Israel Gonzalez.

Serving because the co-main to Saul Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2) vs. Gennadiy GGG Golovkin (42-1-1), WBC super flyweight champion Jesse Bam Rodriguez (16-0) faced the veteran, battle-tested Israel Gonzalez (28-4-1) at the T-Mobile Arena in NEVADA, NV. In that which was an extremely close fight, two of the judges didnt view it this way (118-109 & 117-110), however the one judge did (114-113) giving Rodriguez the unanimous decision victory.

In the initial round, Rodriguez began early in the round by pumping that right jab and feinting. Gonzalez was countering with the right uppercut from mid-range, which he previously some success with through the entire round. Rodriguez began to counter Gonzalez late in the round with the right uppercut.

The next round saw Gonzalez continuing to score from the mid-range, which seemed as though it was probably the most comfortable distance for him. However, Rodriguez kept landing a difficult straight left hand while also countering with the right uppercut. The 3rd round three saw more high-level feinting and counter punching.

In the fourth round, Gonzalez gained increasingly more confidence in this round as he was moving with Rodriguez, which took away the benefit of fighting in angles. The Gonzalez body shots began to bother Rodriguez, but Bam came back by the end of the round as he applied plenty of pressure. Then in the fifth, Rodriguez began to push Gonzalez a bit more, and the sense of urgency became portion of the story in this round. With the counter body shots, Rodriguez appeared to have slowed Gonzalez down a little this round.

The sixth round was once the range began to get closer, and thats when Rodriguez landed his best punches. The short right hook was landing increasingly more. Gonzalez seemed as though the wind was getting sucked out of him. In round seven, Gonzalez gained his momentum back by moving with Gonzalez and getting his punches out first. Rodriguez continued to close the length to smother Gonzalez.

In the eighth round, Rodriguez hit Gonzalez with a minimal blow costing him a spot. Both men arrived in round nine with a spot to prove, but Gonzalez was better far away and landing the far better punches.

In the championship rounds, it had been Rodriguez who was simply pouring it on and seeking to finish out strong, although he once more hit Gonzalez low. Both men gave it their all down the stretch, so when the judges scorecards were read, it had been Rodriguez who arrived at the top.
