Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) admitted at a debate between your candidates for LA mayor on Wednesday night that her sense of personal safety in the town had declined from 10/10 in March to 5/10 today, after her home was burglarized.
Billionaire property developer Rick Caruso, who finished second to Bass in the principal election, responded:Youre concerned about your kids likely to school. I dont desire to put a 5 on my kid and say, Well, theres a 50/50 chance you ensure it is.’
Crime is among the major issues in the election, alongside homelessness though Bass, like other Democrats, has seized on the problem of abortion to motivate voters against Caruso, a former Republican who donated to pro-life candidates during the past.
Earlier this month, Bass was the victim of a bad break-in at her home where two guns were stolen. Bass told local Fox affiliate KTTV-11 that her guns were registered, locked in a safe box, and saved in a closet if they were stolen.
At the debate, Caruso remarked that the existing mayor, Eric Garcetti, had defunded the authorities by $150 million; Bass was an early on critic of the defund the authorities slogan and supports increasing how big is the LA Police Department.
Both candidates clashed over their policies on homelessness, and a continuing bribery case at the University of Southern California, where Bass, who’s not just a target of prosecution, received a $95,000 scholarship she belatedly reported to Congress.
