Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett is defined to visit a bump in playing amount of time in the team’s second preseason game on Saturday contrary to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters Pickett would be the backup quarterback behind Mitch Trubisky.

“I must say i think the primary emphasis and mentality when it comes to how exactly we structured it this week is we simply just desire to see Kenny in more varsity action,” Tomlin said.

Pickett was the 3rd Steelers quarterback to enter last week’s preseason opener contrary to the Seattle Seahawks behind Trubisky and Mason Rudolph. After entering through the third quarter, the rookie went 13-of-15 for 95 yards and two touchdowns, like the game-winning score on a 24-yard pass to Tyler Vaughns.

After Pickett’s a stellar debut, Tomlin said this week he really wants to get yourself a closer consider the 20th pick in this year’s draft.

“We realize more about Mason. Mitch ‘s been around the professional game, obviously, which means this is really a big week for [Pickett] when it comes to maybe getting back in in the initial 1 / 2 of this game and I’d imagine getting a chance to see front-line defenders for Jacksonville,” Tomlin said.

Rudolph is entering his fourth year in Pittsburgh, so he’s most acquainted with the offensive scheme. The 2017 No. 2 pick, Trubisky signed with the Steelers this offseason hoping of revitalizing his career, and he is apparently in line to function as team’s starter.

However, Trubisky is known as to be always a bridge quarterback until Pickett is preparing to take the reins. On Saturday, the 24-year-old are certain to get to show what lengths along he could be in his development and potentially give Tomlin something to take into account when deciding this season’s starting quarterback.
