Kia’s New Electric SUV is Quicker Than Italian Supercars

Kia, with the successful launch of the handsome and quick EV6 electric vehicle, introduced on Friday the GT version at Monterey Car Week. It’s faster and much more powerful compared to the EV6 and includes performance parts over the board.

“The EV6 GT ushers within the next chapter of the program S electrification story for Kia, elevating the EV6’s thrilling performance and effortless drivability beyond expectations,” said Steven Center, COO and Executive Vice President, Kia America in a statement. “Moving toward our tailpipe zero-emissions goals hasn’t been as exhilarating.”

The Kia EV6 GT includes exactly the same 77.4kWh battery because the EV6, however the power is dialed up from 320 horsepower (hp) and 446 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque to 576 hp and 546 lb-ft. The EV6 GT will get to 60 miles each hour in 3.4 seconds, a 1.2-second improvement on the slower car.

The EV6 GT also includes a sport suspension with adaptive dampers along with other unique front suspension components. An electric limited slip differential helps by sending capacity to the wheel with grip around a large part. Larger ventilated front and rear disc brakes with performance calipers are standard. The GT includes Z-rated Goodyear Eagle F1 tires fitted with 21-inch wheels.

It has new drive modes too. The typical EV6 has Eco, Normal, Sport, and Snow as the GT introduced Drift Mode, which only powers the trunk wheels, the customizable My Drive Mode and GT Drive Mode. The GT mode puts the motors, braking, steering, suspension, e-LSD, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) systems to their most dynamic settings.

Just like the standard EV6 the GT posseses an 800-volt electrical system best for a 70-percent charge in under 18 minutes on a 350-kW charger. It includes a selection of 206 miles, when compared to all-wheel drive EV6’s selection of 274 miles. The rear-drive base model can go 310 miles before a recharge.

The cabin includes a vegan suede-trimmed, lightweight performance front bucket seats with the ‘GT’ moniker and green piping. The GT adds including neon accents and a striped motif on top of the dashboard and front center armrest. Ambient lighting over the door panels, center console and dashboard is standard.

Safety features carry over from the EV6 including blind spot indicators, driver attention warning, emergency braking, high-beam assist, Highway Driving Assist II, which will keep a collection distance from the car in the front and centers the automobile in the lane. Kia says the machine will help with lane changes too.

Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control-Curve uses the navigation system to lessen the vehicle’s speed proactively before upcoming curves in the street. Rear cross traffic alert can be standard.

The 2023 Kia EV6 GT continues on sale in the fourth quarter of 2022 and all buyers will receive a 1,000kWh charging credit at Electrify America stations over a three-year period. Pricing will undoubtedly be revealed near launch; the existing Kia EV6 starts at $41,400. The all-wheel drive EV6 starts at $51,400.
