LeVar Burton heard Kanye West comparing reading books to eating unappealing vegetables, and he’s got some honest advice for Ye. On Monday (Sept. 19), Burton took to Twitter expressing his hopes about Wests Donda Academy curriculum.
Im going need to take Mr. West at his word. I am hoping, however, he shares another message with the kids enrolled in the institution hes founded, the iconic Reading Rainbow host wrote. Named after his mother, who was simply an professor of English. Im fairly certain she read a book or two.
Burtons tweet arrives after Kanye Wests Friday (Sept. 17) appearance on theAlo Mind Fullpodcast. West spoke about his disdain for literature and preferred the art of verbal storytelling instead.
I actually havent read any book, theJesus Is Kingartist said. Reading is similar to eating Brussels sprouts for me personally. And talking is similar to obtaining the Giorgio Baldi corn ravioli.
Ye recently opened his Donda Academy school in Simi Valley, California to students from pre-K to Grade 12. The institution includes writing as part of their daily schedule, alongside language arts, math and science along with enrichment courses. These course include world language, visual art, film, choir and parkour. Donda Academy also requires parents to sign NDAs to be able to enroll their children, in accordance with a written report by Rolling Stone.
