Lindsey Vonn Mourns Mother Lindy’s Death After ALS Battle

Lindsey Vonn is grieving the increased loss of her mother

On Aug. 27, the Olympian took tosocial mediato share the heartbreaking news that her mom, Linda Krohn, has “lost her struggle with ALS.”

“She passed on peacefully when i held her hand, exactly twelve months after her diagnosis,” she shared within an Instagram post, plus a group of throwback and recent photos of both together. “I’m so grateful for each and every moment I had with her but I’m also thankful that she actually is no more suffering and in peace. She was a shining light which will never fade and I’ll forever be inspired by her.”

Lindseywho’s probably the most decorated female skier everalso re-shared the dedication she wrote to her motherin her 2022 memoir, Rise,calling the passage, “unfortunately fitting now.”

“She actually is my inspiration not due to what she did for my skiing career, but how her perpetual positivity shaped me in to the person I’m on, & most importantly, off the slopes,” she originally wrote in the book. “Every adversity I’ve faced, I came across perspective and inspiration from her. Through the entire many hardships in her life, they only made her stronger, kinder, and much more humble. That kind of grit is what shaped me since i have was a kid; whether I knew after that it or not, I understand it now.”

She continued, “Mom, I am hoping I am 1 day as tough when you are. I hope I’ll approach each day with just as much energy and optimism as you do. I am hoping I will 1 day raise my kids to be as incredible when you are. I really like you.”

In the post’s comment section, Lindseywho retired from skiing in 2019received an outpouringof support from friends and fans, including fellowathletes Allyson FelixandSabine Lisicki, model Ashley Grahamand Little Big TownsingerKaren Fairchild.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson also expressed his condolences writing, “I’m so sorry for the loss, my pal. Sending your household love, light & mana.”

Based on the ALS Association, ALS is really a neurodegenerative disease without cure that destroys the nerve cells that control the muscles that allow us to consume, breathe, walk and speak. A lot of people obtain the disease between your ages of 40 and 70, and the common survival time is two to five years.

Lindy’s passing comesjust 8 weeks after Lindsey paid tribute to her mother during her teary induction speech in to the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Hall of Fame.

“But mainly I’d like to dedicate this to my mother,”shesaid on stageduring the June ceremony. “She’s having her very own battle at this time with ALS. She’s taught me so much about strength and character, and it’s really due to the example that my mother set that I could overcome whatever obstacle was thrown at me. Many thanks, Mom.”
