Naomie Ackie Stuns as Whitney Houston in the initial I Wanna Dance With Somebody Trailer

Not desire to dance? The initial trailer for the Whitney Houston biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, starring Naomie Ackie because the voice of a generation, has dropped.

The trailer begins with legendary record executive Clive Davis, portrayed by Stanley Tucci, exiting a limo and entering a little concert venue. A Whitney is unexpectedly thrust onstage to sing when her mother, Cissy Houston (played by Tamara Tunie), loses her voice and can’t sing as planned. Houston belts out the initial few bars of an acoustic version How AM I GOING TO Know, and the others is history. We flash-forward to Whitney signing her record cope with Davis and excitedly getting up to listen to her first song on the air.

My dream? Sing what I wish to sing and become who I would like to be, Houston says, while images of her singing in the church choir with her mother, popping Champagne, and performing in arenas flood the screen. We then follow Houston in her iconic white tracksuit as she makes her solution to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl as How AM I GOING TO Know swells beneath her. And sing she does. While Houston had a brief history of substance abuse and died unexpectedly in 2012 at age 48, the trailer for I Wanna Dance With Somebody is overwhelmingly positive and upbeat, highlighting soaring moments in her career including her performance of the national anthem at the 1991 Super Bowl, her music videos for I’LL Always Love You and How AM I GOING TO Know, and many more. In an interview with People, Ackie said that the film finds a method to easily fit into so quite a few songs from Houston’s catalog, and that it explores elements of her life that people find out about, but through the scope of her very own internal world.
