Nate Diaz endorses BJ Penn for governor of Hawaii

BJ Penn is apparently gaining support from his fellow fighters in his quest to end up being the next governor of Hawaii.

The most recent fighter to throw his weight behind the former champion is Nate Diaz, who, despite being unsure what government office Penn was running for, encouraged listeners to contribute to his gubernatorial campaign throughout a recent appearance on The MMA Hour.

I simply talked to BJ Penn earlier, Diaz told Ariel Helwani on the show. Shoutout to BJ Penn. Lets all vote for BJ Penn to beuhgovernor of Hawaii. Lets all contribute to my guy BJ Penn. He could be doing fundraisers at this time or some shit like this. It dont matterIm with BJ Penn.

Penn officially announced his intention to perform for governor of Hawaii as Republican alongside four other GOP candidates in April with the purpose of replacing incumbent Democratic Governor David Ige, who’s term-limited and ineligible to perform for a third term in office.

Penn joined the GOP after finding his political fervor through the pandemic. The former fighter spoke out against mask mandates and vaccine restrictions, promising to lift them if elected governor. He’s got since voiced his support for the next amendment following a Robb Elementary School shooting while also announcing himself for life in the wake of the Supreme Courts decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade.

Despite Penns inexperience and insufficient campaign goals or policy framework, his decision to perform for office sparked increased fascination with the gubernatorial race. A recently available Civil Beat/Hawaii News Now poll puts Penn in a detailed second to former Lt. Gov. James Duke Aiona with a substantial percentage of undecideds, suggesting that the former UFC champion could win the Republican nomination in the coming weeks.
