Nathaniel Wood feels proficient at featherweight, however, not closing bantamweight door

PARIS Following a decade at bantamweight, Nathaniel Wood gave himself a brand new start at featherweight earlier this season.

However in a rarity, he said it had been a fight that never happened that gave him the push to go up a division. When Vince Morales pulled out of a March fight on your day of the card in London in March, Wood was left watching from the sideline rather than making his return for the very first time in nearly per year . 5.

The effect was a proceed to145 pounds against Charles Rosa in July and a win after 21 months of inactivity.

Saturday, Wood (18-5 MMA, 5-2 UFC) opens the UFC Fight Night 209 main card in Paris against Charles Jourdain (13-5-1 MMA, 4-4-1 UFC).

Im feeling great, honestly. Its just nice to be active. Im back doing what I enjoy do, Wood said at Thursdays media day prior to the event at Accor Arena. I havent got serious weight cuts where I must put my entire life on hold for 12 weeks. Five weeks hence, I fought Charles Rosa, and today Ive got Charles Jourdain.

I believe everything happens for grounds. I believe the fight where I was designed to fight Vince Morales, and he pulled out I believe that was an indicator to go up a weight. I believe my performance against Charles Rosa was perfect. I dont think I couldve done better, apart from obtaining the finish, needless to say. I believe (likely to featherweight) was likely to happen, and here we have been now.

Wood, a former Cage Warriors bantamweight champion, now has a chance to put some momentum together. He lost to Casey Kenney in October 2020, but didnt get yourself a possiblity to get that taste out of his mouth until July.

Now in a fresh weight class, he thinks a make an impression on Jourdain on the heels of 1 against Rosa can pay dividends.

Im just feeling excited, Wood said. Ive got an opponent who involves bang. Stylistically, its an ideal matchup for me personally. Its an ideal matchup for the fans, aswell. I believe hes an extremely talented fighter. Obviously, hes ranked above me thats just what I’d like.

Just how I view it, Ive got a three- to four-year period, I believe now, where Im likely to maintain my prime. So if theres ever a period to go on it up a notch and begin chasing that belt, its now. Charles Jourdain, I believe, is among the best strikers in the division. I believe a good make an impression on him puts me maybe for the reason that top 15 rankings. If it doesnt, Ill just keep knocking out whoever Ive got (before me), and finally Ill get yourself a shot.
