As competition continues at training camps, some players have earned praises from their coaches among others need to shrink performances prior to the regular season.
At this stage in the offseason, quarterback battles make headlines. Though Mitch Trubisky appears like the favourite to win the Pittsburgh Steelers job, hes not just a lock to claim the positioning. Actually, the team may change things up at practice to obtain a better look at one of is own competitors.
Sticking to the buzz at Steelers camp, one NFL insider believes wide receiver Diontae Johnson could easily get what’s promising that concerns his contract circumstances before Week 1.
THE BRAND NEW Orleans Saints likewise have some in-house matters to iron out.
That they had to kick a rookie out of practice due to his extracurricular activity in the last few days. Leading office may need to address a hold in situation with an integral defender, too.
Two head coaches complimented players, but their comments will come having an ulterior motive since both camp standouts could possibly be on the trade block this offseason.

This offseason, the Green Bay Packers signed quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a three-year, $150.8 million extension, which will keep him on the books through the 2026 term. Jordan Love isnt likely to start to see the field through the regular season unless hes set for mop-up duty in a blowout or due to injury.
Heading into his third season, Love doesnt have another with the Packers, and leading office will need to decide on his fifth-year option next offseason. With Rodgers healthy and playing at an MVP level, Love has already established only six appearances (one start), completing 36 out 62 passes for 411 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.
Love must show his potential on the practice field and in preseason games. He earned noteworthy praise from team brass Wednesday.
That might’ve been one of is own guidelines we’ve observed in 3 years,” head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters. “He made some big-time throws with pressure in his face.”
“I believe you’re seeing a far more confident guy [who can say], ‘OK, I understand after that happen before it happens,’ general manager Brian Gutekunst said.
As the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA 49ers Jimmy Garoppolo likely stands first in line if another team would go to the trade market for a quarterback, the Packers can enhance Loves profile. If the third-year signal-caller performs well in the preseason, a team that loses its leader in the huddle or comes with an unsettled situation at the positioning could make an offer for him.
The Packers could make an effort to get something for a backup whos not likely to play for the near future. They will have fifth-year veteran quarterback Danny Etling on the depth chart aswell.

Typically tight-lipped at the podium, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick spoke highly of wide receiver Nelson Agholor on Wednesday (h/t ProFootballTalks Michael David Smith).
A large jump. A large jump. He was here all offseason, had an extremely good offseason. Hes productive. He previously an extremely good spring of training. He arrived here, made plays down the field, that is essential, but hes also playing well in the areas. Hardly any mental errors. I believe hes looked good.
Following a strong 2020 campaign with the NEVADA Raiders, hauling in 48 passes for 896 yards and eight touchdowns, Agholor took a step back his first year with the Patriots in 2021. He caught 37 passes for 473 yards and three touchdowns.
This offseason, New England acquired DeVante Parker from the Miami Dolphins and selected Tyquan Thornton in the next round of the years draft, which raised some questions about Agholors 2022 outlook with the Patriots.
This past year, Jakobi Meyers and Kendrick Bourne finished first and second on the team, respectively, in receptions and yards. In accordance with NESNs Zack Cox, Thornton has turned heads at training camp.
Agholor’s contract posesses $14.9 million cap number, although Patriots can save $9.9 million should they trade him, per On the Cap. With a crowded wide receiver room, New England may deal the 29-year-old wideout in case a team makes a good offer for him.

NFL teams love passion, however the SAINTS had to draw a line with rookie first-round tackle Trevor Penning.
In accordance with Garland Gillen of Fox 8 in New Orleans, Penning has fought with teammates in three consecutive sessions, and the team dismissed him from Wednesdays practice after his skirmish with defensive tackle Malcolm Roach. Previously, the rookie tackle have been in fisticuffs with Payton Turner, Taco Charlton, J.T. Gray and Scott Patchan, per Brett Martel of the Associated Press.
New head coach Dennis Allen had strong words for Penning and Roach on Wednesday, via ESPNs Mike Triplett.
We dont have time for that, Allen told reporters. Triplett added in his tweet, [Allen] said they will have work to accomplish, and theyve surely got to interact as a team.
Through the predraft process, heading back to Senior Bowl week, Penning earned a reputation for his mean streak on the field, but he must look for a balance because teams dont desire to see unnecessary activity result in injuries.
Following departure of three-time Pro Bowl tackle Terron Armstead, who signed with the Miami Dolphins in free agency, the Saints will probably depend on Penning or James Hurst to start out at left tackle. For the present time, the rookie must channel his aggression in different ways.

We are able to add C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the set of players whove taken the hold in method of leverage for a fresh deal.
In accordance with Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, Johnson has limited his activity in practices. Hes due for a $2.7 million salary in the ultimate term of his rookie deal.
Through three seasons, Gardner-Johnson has prearranged all around the secondary but primarily in the slot. Hes among the leagues most productive nickelbacks, registering 161 tackles, 15 for loss, three sacks, 28 pass breakups and five interceptions.
Gardner-Johnson has recently made his presence felt at camp, intercepting among quarterback Jameis Winstons passes for a touchdown the other day (h/t Garland Gillen of Fox 8 in New Orleans). Clearly, hes all set for the standard season and just wants a deal thats befitting his worth on a defense that finished top-seven in points and yards allowed this past year.
The Saints have $11.3 million in cap space, that is enough to improve Gardner-Johnsons salary for the short-term. As a high slot defender, he’d likely command near $10 million annually. Thats slightly above Kenny Moore II ($8.3 million AAV), whos in a contract dispute with the Indianapolis Colts, per Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star.

The Pittsburgh Steelers may shuffle the pecking order at quarterback soon.
The Athletics Mark Kaboly shared his observations from the Steelers sixth camp practice.
Now, [Mason] Rudolph stated before practice he expects to obtain some first-team reps eventually,” Kaboly wrote. “Trubisky has gotten all of them and really hasnt been sharp. To go with the 16 consecutive failures in [the] Seven Shots [drill], Trubisky hasnt been consistent at all.”
Kaboly noted that Trubisky didn’t recognize safety Damontae Kazee bail from the box and into coverage for an interception. He also known as rookie first-rounder Kenny Pickett a one-read-and-go quarterback and noted his insufficient patience is holding him back.
Still, Trubiskys lackluster performances open the entranceway for his competitors to claim the starting job, and Rudolph appears like hes in line to obtain some action with the starters soon.
The Steelers have five weeks to tab their Week 1 starter for the standard season. Although quarterback battle isnt much to send a letter home about right now, among the three signal-callers will make a solid case for himself in preseason action. Pittsburgh will play its first exhibition game contrary to the Seattle Seahawks on August 13.

The other day, Pittsburgh Steelers wideout Diontae Johnson made headlines along with his decision to hold in for a fresh contract. Hes present for training camp in order to avoid fines however, not taking part in full capacity heading in to the final season of his pact, where he’s set to create $2.8 million.
The Seattle Seahawks and SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA 49ers signed wide receivers DK Metcalf (3 years, $72 million) and Deebo Samuel (3 years, max value of $73.5 million) to extensions, respectively, in the last week. NFL Networks Mike Garafolo believes Johnson, whos coming off an expert Bowl year with 107 catches for 1,161 yards and eight touchdowns, might ink a short-term extension prior to the Steelers season opener.
Steelers new general manager Omar Khan, who replaced Kevin Colbert this offseason, revealed that the team is in active talks with Johnsons representatives, via The Athletics Mark Kaboly:
The conversations we’ve with Diontae and his representatives are likely to stay between us. We dont discuss that publicly, but we’ve been in conversations. We wish Diontae and we have been excited to possess Diontae part of this team. Hopefully he could be going to be considered a Steeler for a long period.
Pittsburgh includes a deep wide receiver group with Chase Claypool, Anthony Miller, rookie second-rounder George Pickens and rookie fourth-rounder Calvin Austin III on the roster. Due to that depth, leading office might not desire to pay Johnson $20 million annually as other teams will for lead receivers.
However, as Garafolo suggests, a short-term extension could supply the Steelers and Johnson a middle ground in negotiations.

Within an intriguing move, the Dallas Cowboys signed Anthony Barr on a one-year deal. In accordance with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the 30-year-old linebacker also considered the Denver Broncos.
In the last 2 yrs, Barr has battled injuries and missed 20 games. He’s no more a full-time starter, however the former Minnesota Viking can fill some gaps in the Cowboys’ linebacker rotation.
Micah Parsons, the 2021 Defensive Rookie of the entire year, played a substantial amount of snaps on the edge along with his duties at middle linebacker last season. He might continue to maneuver around Dan Quinn’s defense because the Cowboys turn to replace Randy Gregory’s pass-rushing production.
Last October, linebacker Jabril Cox tore his ACL. Per USA Today‘s Jori Epstein, he sat out Tuesday’s practice with a banged-up knee, and the Cowboys may exercise some caution due to his significant injury from the prior campaign.
Leighton Vander Esch has played through two full seasons (2018 and 2021), but he’s missed 13 outings between 2019 and 2020. Dallas could have wanted veteran insurance for him aswell.
With some potential injury concerns at linebacker and Parsons’ much-needed versatility, Dallas made a logical proceed to generate Barr. He’s not the Pro Bowl playmaker from four years back, but if healthy, he is able to shore up the next degree of the Cowboys defense.

Jimmy Garoppolo could be one step nearer to getting a new destination.
In July, the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA 49ers granted Garoppolo permission to get a trade, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Coming off shoulder surgery on his throwing arm and a cap amount of approximately $27 million, his trade value took popular.
General manager John Lynch provided an update on Garoppolo’s condition and explained why the quarterback spent some time working privately in recent practices (h/t ProFootballTalk’s Myles Simmons).
“We’ve just made a decision that it is in his best interest to be off aside, and that has been made mutually,” Lynch said. “It had been made out of Dr. [Neil] ElAttrache, but he’s got no restrictions, and I’m watching him get rid of here at this time. He looks very good.”
Because the 49ers progress with second-year quarterback Trey Lance, they’ll likely continue steadily to shop Garoppolo. We can not assume that the team will cut him if it generally does not look for a trade partner, though. Back March, head coach Kyle Shanahan presented the theory that the 49ers could keep the 30-year-old signal-caller on the roster in 2022.
Nonetheless, a team uncomfortable using its quarterback room after final roster cuts may inquire in regards to a healthy Garoppolo, who’s led the 49ers to the playoffs doubly a serviceable starter.
